These moronic, self serving, imbeciles are the ones who are primarily responsible for us loosing 30 years in which we could have been preparing for this disaster. They should be tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail with a corn cob stuffed up their ass. Then we can say “I told you so, you idiots”!
But, is there any chance that we could learn something from all of this; I doubt it!

True, but just bc the USA and Britain haven't wised up doesn't mean we are completely screwed either. You are not even close to the majority of the "globe". The third world countries are not going to be majorly affected by a lack of oil - they barely use any. We have community gardens here, we have communities that are completely OFF the grid (I'm talking in the thousands). The gov't pays you $5K to retrofit your house with solar heating/solar water. We use recycled material for roofs. Mexico is following suit. We have "sister cities" there that are even ahead of us. And European countries are reducing their energy consumption as well.
Those are just things I know about and I'm too lazy to research and compile a list. My point: governments and people are acting. We are no longer talking about it. It *may* be too late. I'm not so sure we've proven that here. I don't think we know where that point is...

But the peak oil cause is lost.
I'm not convinced of that yet. We have had MANY cities in our area banding together to deal with "climate change" and "peak oil." And YES, they are using the term peak oil. They are spreading out information entitled, "what your cities is doing about peak oil and what you can do."
So in my neck of the woods, we are beyond the debate and moving towards action. Of course, it may be too late. I'm not sure of that - yet. I do believe we are past the point of "painless transition" but a painful transition is not total collapse/devastation. We'll see.
I see you live in Vancouver. I'll believe they are attempting to deal with the issue the second they decide against twinning the port man bridge cancel the entire gateway project except the bicycle lanes and stop expanding the sea to sky highway to make access easier for the Olympics.
You're in complete denial if you think any of these things will actually happen before the collapse is already here. We'll happily go way in to deficit just to keep up appearances before 2010. After that let it melt down like everywere else. _________________ shame on us, doomed from the start

Do not use Australia as an example oh Fairmaiden!
What Little Johny Howard and his band of Merry Jackasses say, and what they do are two very different things, as any Australian with half a brain or more has learned. He'll be even worse if he magically wins the upcoming election (again). That doesn't take much, just wave the interest rates and "we're the best party for the economy" flags. _________________ "That the cream cannot help but always rise up to the top, well I say, <censored by peakoil.com> floats"

Sigh, I'm not saying we are there. I actually work with the LRC issue so I know all about Gateway and its implications.
BUT "all is lost" sounds the same as "there is no problem, technology will save us." to me.
Gimme a break! People see what they want to see. I learned that long ago. It seems like alot of ppl here want to see total and mass destruction. Yes, we need population reduction. Yes, we are living the good life on a finite resource. How we adjust and how it plays out is not determined yet. Mother nature could step in and take some choices away from us (the least likely possibility, but still a possibility).
No, Australia is doing nothing. I agree. But that was a GOOD report about what they SHOULD be doing by a government official. And he's trying to educate/motivate the public.
"Never underestimate the power of a group of individuals to affect change. Indeed its the only that thing that ever has."
As I stated before, its gotta hurt. Its going to hurt. That doesn't mean "its a lost cause"...we just sound so #%^%# harsh on here all the time...

If things are that bad, you'll be deader than a doornail long before you can get a chance to toss anything at anyone. Even if most don't have food, with over 200 million private firearms, and a ton more public, there'll be someone to put two in your chest and one between your eyes if you do anything like that. _________________

In you're face losers.
Where's your $40/bbl oil now?
Man... that felt good.
I have to agree Aaron. Finally we can say this. It does feel pretty good. There really is no way anyone here can deny peak oil any more. It is becoming too obvious. The numbers don't lie. And to all you techno scum peak oil deniers (I mean losers) still out there, kiss my a$$.

"The third world countries are not going to be majorly affected by a lack of oil - they barely use any"
There are many who say the above. But, I am inclined to think that the third world will be indirectly hit by the loss of oil. Why? Because that oil is how they are getting their food and other aid. I don't think there are going to be a lot of countries who will want to use up their remaining oil resources and stores to feed millions of people who are going to die anyway.

There's no percentage in saying "I told you so.", but it is awfully satisfying to have people who couldn't hear us a couple of years ago now want to know what's going on. I just tell them. No sense in rubbing it in.
It would be nice if people in power would get it, but what are they going to do?
I am working on getting the bus station nearby fixed up. We may need it sooner than we think. I talked to the town manager and I pointed out that at $5 a gallon it won't just be the bottom tier of society riding the bus. He seemed to get it. Time will tell if he does something about it.
I think that it is more effective to say, now's the time, instead of we told you so. _________________ Deep in the mud and slime of things, even there, something sings.

There is such thing as being a bad winner. People do have limitations in what they believe or accept. Some just are too busy with their own lives and can't really pay attention to serious subjects. When the effects of PO are obvious to everyone I will not tell them "I told you so!" The very facts will speak for themselves. It's like mocking others for not believing you while the ship is sinking with you and everyone in it. At that point does it really matter who was right or wrong? Food for thought.
