For a minute there I thought I had to get off my couch, when all the while the fact is we don't have to do anything much but keep things afloat for just a few decades more! In fact, we'd best shut up about PO, because if our offspring finds out we knew about it all along, they'll turn and wring our necks come 2036!

He seems more closely aligned with the consensus views here at PeakOil.com, than any other candidate.

Should we as a community endorse his candidacy for President?

I'm not sure I would feel comfortable endorsing any other candidate... that's certain.

So... ?

I thought the presidential race was over. I would have gone for Nicolas Hulot had he presented himself.

I think that if peakoil.com is going to get into the political arena then it should confine itself to endorsing policies regardless of which politician implements them.

Will peakoil.com endorse other leaders in other countries as well? We arent all Americans.

At any rate I'm sure among peakoil.com's American members theres probably some divergence of opinion about who to support. It wouldn't be appropriate to put an "official" stamp on any candidate when its far from clear everyone supports him.

A most definite and certain YES.

Thanks for asking!

The fact that mainstream Republicans are calling him a kook and the MSM is ridiculing him at every opportunity only strengthens my support of the man. Obvioulsy he is a threat to the status quo, which is a good thing in my book.

I don't agree with his views on abortion but, after going over his website and his positions, I think its a fair trade. Especially after doing the same with the other candidates.

Why not let Halonen have another term as President of the Republic?

Yes,

The first candidate in any race I've felt any kind of enthusiasm for.

I'm happy Paul is in the race, but on his website, it doesn't even list energy as an issue much less say what his position is.

http://www.ronpaul2008.com/

I'm guessing his position is that the federal government should have no role at all in energy related matters since it isn't in the constitution ? Maybe that is a good thing, I'm just asking.

No no NO 1000 times NO!

PO.com should never endorse any candidate anywhere for anything! PO is NOT a pollitical problem, it is a geological problem with no pollitical solution.

While I agree with about 95% of what Ron Paul says he wants to do I still say No to an endorsement.

For one thing if he goes down in flames as I expect he will well before the election it will reflect badly on PO.com. The last thing we need now that some are starting to pay attention is to link ourselves to a shooting star which may end up shooting us in the foot, to mix my metaphores.

If you want to endorse him as Aaron as your personal favorite that is a fine example of free speach, if PO,com does so as a group it is jumping into the pollitics side of the world that usually results in sound and fury but accomplishes nothing.

Let us all be individuals and act as we think is right on this matter, not as a collective where some are dragged along for things they do not beleive in but are expected to accept through association.

Good question Dinopello. I noticed the same thing, but I guess with his Libertarian bent, he's figuring that the market will take care of the problem.

Maybe he's right. People will use less imported energy when they can't afford it! Regardless of what happens outside the US, we will use less eventually. I'd rather see it done like that instead of a prolonged resource war ruining the country and causing its collapse, which seems like where we're heading IMO.

Its not a matter of if, just a matter of when. He favors bringing our worldwide military presence home immediately. The end of empire. Can you imagine it?

I imagine that would have an effect on the price we pay for energy, since it won't be subsidized by our massive military spending as many astute posters on this site have so eloquently pointed out.

I have to say I agree with those folks. The sooner we start 'hitting the brakes' the less pain we're going to experience, as a country.

An emphatic yes. He might not be addressing PO, but at least he is not beholden to the vested interests all the other candidates are.

I guess I am thinking no as well.

PO.com has enough problems with our somewhat radical projections to effectively get our core message across to the average guy without aligning ourselves with any particular candidate and alienating whole groups.

Members and volunteers should condemn or endorse each or any or all candidates in specific threads but as a community I think we should stay neutral.
