For a minute there I thought I had to get off my couch, when all the while the fact is we don't have to do anything much but keep things afloat for just a few decades more! In fact, we'd best shut up about PO, because if our offspring finds out we knew about it all along, they'll turn and wring our necks come 2036!

Remove most of the 'titles' in poster's profiles so that only Site Admin, Moderator, etc remain. The spurious ranking system encourages people to post too much (crap).
Vet the first few posts of each new person so that contributions add something to the body of knowledge and opinion here.
Have each new person registering to post, complete a questionnaire that filters out those who haven't done enough research.
Send a PM to those who have more than (say) 10 others ignoring them informing them of this fact and suggesting they refrain from posting unless adding something worthwhile.
Add an 'Ignore Thread' feature.
Add a 'Thread Ranking' feature.
Get the 'Best Of' going as sson as possible please.
I don't like to censure pople. The internet is the last place on earth where freedom of speech is still possible. It will be better to have some kind of a ranking system for each post (or posters). For example, readers could rank from 1 to 5 each post according to its value or pertinence. Afterward, it becomes possible to rank a thread according to the rank of the posts (or the cumulative score of posters). The catch is that people have to take the time to rank posts. This system is used on many technical website.

Ranking posts could work as long as the act of ranking doesn't take the reader away from the thread each time they choose to participate. Just a small pop up box saying something like, "thanks for participating. your opinion has been recorded." Can be easily closed and the reader can go back to reading. _________________ Kind regards, Katkinkate
