CONSUMERS are in clover. The economy is delivering them an abundance of employment, goods and services
and a scan of the horizon reveals no serious threats of any consequence....
What a headline. What an opening paragraph. Talk about the blind leading the blind

Not suprisingly there's no direct mention of oil or energy costs, just 'other factors' 
Consumer Sentiment Dives
CONSUMER sentiment fell by the biggest percentage fall ever recorded in February, after the Reserve Bank of Australia lifted interest rates last week...
Mr Evans said the sentiment drop was an "extraordinarily strong reaction by consumers to the rate hike"......
"Clearly, other factors compounded consumers sensitivity to the rate move." ....
"Heavily indebted consumers have sharply revised their confidence, which prior to today's reading was near record levels....

Any other ideas for immigration?
Not sure if there is an english speaking country in the world that does not copy the USA "culture" wise.

Costa Rica, maybe New Zealand. Other places in Central America, too (Guatemala, for example). We don't have the money or time to emmigrate, though. I still might pick Australia, but I do have concerns about the water situation there.
Re-reading my last post, I'd like to clarify that when I said "behind the US" what I meant was Australia hasn't degenerated as much as we have.
I agree with you about consumer culture being spread everywhere. |

Prices Fueling Misery
PRESSURE is mounting on the federal and state governments to cut the spiralling cost of petrol as polls show it is Australians' major concern.
As the price in Melbourne yesterday levelled out about $1.30, statistics revealed families, farmers, tourism operators and the food industry were shattered by the increases...
..FIGURES reveal the cost of unleaded petrol has risen 22 per cent since January and Victorian motorists have spent an extra $31.9 million.
A NEW poll shows the petrol price is the most critical issue for 81 per cent of Australians.
MULTIPLE-car families face fuel bills of up to $500 a week.
CONSUMPTION has fallen 5 per cent in a week as motorists back away from the pumps.
VICTORIAN crop farmers are having to find an additional $40,000 a year.
MANY children are missing out on birthday presents, meals and other necessities. Some are missing school because their parents cannot afford the fuel to take them....

Alot changes in 8 months (the orginal post was dated jan30). Releaste agents are now saying a new boom in property is starting up. WHOOO!!!!!. Doesn't matter that the economey is going into the septic tank but as I showed an artical in a pervious post dated today alot of financial egg heads were saying property is going to boom again and the releaste agents are jumping on board going whooo whoo. Appears there was a deline in sydney house prices (why didn't the agents tell us about this?, they have continually and allways said house prices are going up even when evidence has shown there was a slight contraction of 1% last year, so 20%+ growth each year followed by a delcine in house prices for one year of less than 1% (it was (-0.7%) means we are in a boom again).
I'd just like to warn people more now than ever do not listen to the media, they are really Fark in the head.

Yeah, difference with Australia is we're not in as much of a population overshoot. We export a MASSIVE percentage of our grain, even in these drought ridden years.
Also, almost nobody owns a gun, which has to be an advantage (makes it more survivable when everybody's peeved off, and there'll probably only be a few isolated shooting incidents at bowsers during the transition.
Another housing boom in Sydney? farrrkkk.... I've GOT to find me a way to get out into the country and help out there... Quite frankly, I probably won't be able to afford Sydney (it's going the way of Manhattan Island in terms of affordability, folks...) 400,000 won't even get you a UNIT in some parts of Sydney... |
