No one is restricting your right to post whatever trivia you like, PMS. And I do understand this inconveniences you but I am thinking the idea here is to make the main message of the site cohesive and at least somewhat palatable and not adhere to your bosses rules or your schedule.
We are after all, Peak Oil News and Message Boards and our splash page says:
The midpoint of global
hydrocarbon production
Not The Apocalyptic Movie Authority.
You see where I am coming from?

I understand but HOF but not Open Discussion. My vote (for whatever it's worth) is to reopen Open Discussion to the public.

Not at all and I didn’t mean for you to take it in an unkind way.
As your question was about the Open, and the Open IS for trivia completely off the main topic of the site, I assumed its unavailability was your complaint.
To me, the stuff I post in the Open is simply random conversation with some folks I have come to know as well as one can over the wires and waves.
In my mind it is a great place for members to hangout and BS but not the best foot to put forward.

Why do you need a secret signal? You've seen my handsome mug at the left of your screen a thousand times. So I show up and say 'hey, pops, let me weed the patch.' You say 'go away' and your wife says, 'let him stay!' I can picture it all now.
