I have wondered for a while why we don't have a thread dedicated to diesels fuels, you know farm equipment, OTR trucking industry, and a few private consumers all need the stuff to operate. Not to mention that home heating oil is essentially high sulfur Deisel fuel, and Kerosene is essentially Deisel #1 fuel as used across the northern tier of states in winter.
So here goes, I checked four stations yesterday in my area and all of them had diesel in the $3.55-$3.59 window. Harvest is just about over here but local drivers are stuck with the situation. OTR trucks that head south or east are runnig with minimum fuel so that they can fill up when they get out of this high price zone of fuel, the ones heading west are pretty much stuck with things as they are here.
When I checked Kerosene was still $3.33, it doesn't sell very fast because around here it is mostly used for stand alone heaters for garages or out buildings. _________________ Oxygen: - An intensely habit-forming accumulative toxic substance. As little

Tanada - do you happen to know if the price of delivered home heating oil is the same as either retail kerosene or diesel gas? I would like to get a weekly or monthly figure for the local price of home heating oil (we switched over to geothermal from oil and I am tracking how many $$'s we're saving). There's a state government web site which shows average heating oil price but it was always low compared to the rate quoted on my bill (maybe it's wholesale?). I could call the oil distributor and ask them, but it would be easier just to look at a kerosene or diesel pump.

I think the OTR trucks pay state tax by mileage driven in each state. So, the idea that they can fill up in cheaper areas really dosen't make much diff. |

| I think diesel is the straw that will break the camels back. Every drop of food, every scrap of clothing, brought to you by diesel. Even my family members who don't believe/ have any inkling of peak oil are starting to understand that diesel drives the world around us. |

Hi.
Saw deisel selling for $3.80/gallon here at the Campus Shell Station at Fair Oaks Boulevard and Howe Avenue in Sacramento.
Note this:
Just 3 years ago oil was selling for no more than $50/barrel. Now, it is selling for about $100/barrel. Gasoline has come up from about $1.50 to $3.00 a gallon. At that rate oil should be $200/barrel and gasoline should be $6/gallon in 3 years. That will be enough to really do some damage to the airline industries and some to the trucking industry as well. Expect automobile drivers in the US to be relatively less affected.

Here in Monroe County MI the prices is way cheaper for home heating oil. For one thing it is allowed to have much more sulfur in it than road diesel, for another it doesn't have taxes other than sales tax on it.
Consequently my Dad who still heats with #2 filled up for IIRC $2.33, which was about $.80 cheaper than diesel when he did it. _________________ Oxygen: - An intensely habit-forming accumulative toxic substance. As little

Just went and topped off my car tonight, the local Marathon is now $3.69 for Diesel and $3.38 for Kerosene. I think the Kerosene is left over from last spring, nobody has been using it all summer. _________________ Oxygen: - An intensely habit-forming accumulative toxic substance. As little

Well topped off my car again tonight, my local diesel prices are $3.59, $2.69 and $3.69 and the one place I checked Kerosene has rocketed to $5.12!!! Crazy considering it is for portable heater 90# of the time and the super refined version they use for jet fuel sells for under $3.00 at the airline hubs!
Bangor Maine News
| Quote: | LINCOLN - Record diesel prices that reached $3.65 per gallon Saturday are pushing logging truckers into a state of emergency that could imperil Maine’s entire forestry products industry.
State officials expressed fear Saturday that runaway fuel prices could force independent truckers — the forest product industry’s connective tissue, as they haul fiber to mills from the woods — to abruptly shut down, sparking a larger crisis within the industry and the state.
Gov. John Baldacci and other officials are investigating ways to help truckers stay on the roads over the winter, including temporary suspension of gas taxes and some hauling regulations and bulk fuel buying, said John M. Kerry, director of the state’s Office of Energy Independence and Security.

Michigan is a logging state so this could be a factor here too, which is why it caught my eye. _________________ Oxygen: - An intensely habit-forming accumulative toxic substance. As little

Diesel is about 65% of fuel consumption around here.
Price has been around 1.2 €/litre or around 4.54 $/gal, 50% of which is tax. |

Huge spread here in Dallas - most are around $3.69, but I saw one @ $3.89.
I filled up for $3.49. Cheapest I've found. _________________ "It's called the American Dream because you'd have to be asleep to believe it."

Our heating oil, kerosene and propane customers aren't too happy with the prices this year. That's actually a good price for kerosene. Some stations are over 4 bucks a gallon at the pump. |

$3.65 here for diesel, $3.15 $3.24 for regular unleaded.
The TDI Jetta is still the preferred method of transportation at my hosue due to its superior mileage compared to my other car which only gets about 30 mpg.
edit: regular went up again today
