Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.
On January 22, 2008, N.Y. Times best selling author, Steve Alten and Sweetwater Books will release The Shell Game, a cautionary tale, written in the guise of fiction, that exposes the hidden truths behind the events of September 11th and the invasion of Iraq, along with the neo-conservative agenda to wage a new war in Iran. Meticulously researched, Alten’s tour de force focuses its plot on the end of oil and the next 9/11 event, election fraud and the corporate influence that is tainting America. Its main character experiences the dangers of the Patriot Act and the effects of torture, along with the double standards that allow the Saudi monarchy to use oil profits to foster hatred toward the West and Israel.
By writing the story as a novel, this established mainstream author brings our own important messages into mainstream America. Should the book become a big best seller, it would drive these issues into the limelight during the most important election in our nation’s history. In addition, the book’s success would raise all of the 9/11 organizations’ boats. The author’s appearances on mainstream venues such as Today Show, Good Morning America, Daily Show, David Letterman, and the Tonight Show, along with hundreds of radio, TV News, and print media will be used to generate renewed interest in our own investigative areas of interest and could very well lead to hearings while influencing the 2008 elections. Such is the power of a focused mainstream message.
A major public relations plan is already underway to launch The Shell Game onto best seller lists. Front table space has been secured in all Barnes & Nobel and Borders Bookstores. A first run of 40,000 books has been ordered (31,000 books have already been pre-sold into stores).
Although this book is a work of fiction, it is jam-packed with facts about 9/11, the Patriot act, the failure of the 9/11 Commission, and the creation of Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. When this book is published, a whole new audience will be exposed to these facts, facts normally found only in non-fiction by David Ray Griffin and read mostly by people already in the know. Additionally, this book will be promoted heavily in the mainstream media, in outlets we've had little representation in the past without the help of big names like Charlie Sheen, Ed Asner, and Rosie O'Donnell.
The author has assured me that he will do everything he can while promoting this book to increase visibility of the movement and to "expose these criminals and what they did". Steve Alten has sold millions of books and he routinely ends up on the New York Times Bestseller List so the potential here is huge. The goal is to get this novel in to the top ten list ASAP, so consider picking up a copy on January 22.

It's interesting how the two sets of ideas - Peak Oil and 911 Conspiracy - have filtered into the public eye.
When I read Ken Deffeye's book "Hubbert's Peak" back in '99, Peak Oil was a very fringe-ish idea. And it remained that way long after I had become a member of PO.com. It used to be that whenever the littlest mention was made of an impending petroleum crisis, everyone on the board would remark about it. Not so anymore - there have been literally thousands of articles, a few good films, a bunch of books, and even a couple of TV spots.
But it's strange how STILL hardly anyone utters the dreaded the P-word on TV. Certainly no campaigning politician ever utters it. And even just the other day, the WSJ could not bring itself to lend credence to the notion of a world oil production peak and subsequent diminishing supplies. Instead, they wrote an "undulating plateau" article.
So Peak Oil has made it into the public consciousness in a more mainstream way, if mostly confined to print.
The substance behind 911 conspiracy tales, on the other hand, has been almost completely underground. It hasn't been for a lack of interest though. It's been all a rage on the internet - much more than Peak Oil has. The most downloaded film in internet history has been "Loose Change". And recently, Tucker Carlson on MSNBC admitted that if anyone wanted to make ratings soar, all they would have to do is talk about the alternative versions of the 911 attacks; the email wouldn't quit for weeks. It has probably been torture for the ratings people artificially keeping 911 off the radar.
I wonder which one has reached more sympathetic eyes and ears so far? That would be an interesting poll to conduct.
At any rate, Steve Alten knows what a huge bestseller this recipe will unleash on the public. I couldn't be more pleased about it!
As it IS fiction, I simply hope that the impact of the story provides a framework for the broad public to become more deeply interested in the geopolitics surrounding oil depletion - and the bizarre events that already have occurred and will continue to play out as the prospect of a truly dark future dawns.

A Personal Message From The Author:
Upon reading the manuscript for The SHELL GAME, a trusted editor of mine who has guided me through seven novels, most of which dealt with monstrous creatures, told me that none of the major publishing houses would ever publish this book. “It’s not conventional fiction, the protagonist has to be more heroic and save the day...plus it’s way too controversial. I just can’t bring myself to believe the President of the United States would knowingly allow such a horrendous thing to happen?”
My response was simple: If I wrote a book back in August of 2001 about Saudi Nationals training in American flight schools so that they could use box-cutters to hijack planes and fly them into buildings, would you have believed that? My editor friend thought about that for a moment, then replied, “okay, but you wouldn’t have been able to sell that book either.” He’s probably right.
But The SHELL GAME is neither standard fiction nor non-fiction, it was written as a cautionary tale, backed by disturbing facts and inconvenient truths that are used to project an all-too-real scenario down the path we have been lulled into taking. Two long years of research went into the project, key bits of information provided to me along the way by concerned fans of mine in the military, the oil industry, the political arena, and by individuals who simply have suffered far too much. Some of the things they told me have given me nightmares, and in fact, this entire project has taxed my nerves to the point of permanent damage. (One neurologist has diagnosed the trembling in my right hand and leg as being the onset of Parkinsons.)
When we are the monsters in the story, then the horror becomes a little too real. Right wing political pundits will accuse me of being a conspiracy theorist – part of the “left wing wackos.” In truth, I am a registered Democrat, but I am far from a liberal and the Dems feel my wrath in the story as well as the Republicans. To my delight, this book was published by a Mormon conservative group out of Utah – a traditional red state.
Red states, blue states. Utter nonsense. We are all proud Americans. So let me introduce to you two colors that better define the line of separation in the United States and the rest of the world: Black is the color of oil and coal and the carbon dioxide it delivers into our atmosphere every day - 70 million tons of it. Black is the ledger of the oil companies, created by billions of dollars in profits that support Middle Eastern governments who care little about their own people and find their way into the hands of extremist groups. Those same billions allows the fossil fuel industry to lobby and coerce our politicians, who in turn, allow them to continue to pollute. Black is the color of cancer and death; the color of minorities who perished in New Orleans because it was too costly to fix the problem, and the color of blood as it bleeds from a bullet wound and mortar fire. Black is the heart who loses a loved one in a war they know is unjust. Finally, black is the date that will appear on the calendars of all those who witness the blackest date in our history . . .when a nuclear device explodes in one of our cities, incinerating tens of thousands, radiating millions, and staining what remains of our civilization forever.
Green is the solution that can prevent the catastrophe. It is the color of clean energy and the new economy it brings. It is the color of our environment as we reverse the effects of climate change, reducing CO-2 emissions in the air, soothing our planet’s temperature. Green is the color of money, which is why green will never be allowed to positively impact our civilization as long as oil is black.
For those of you who will turn red (and blue) in the face arguing that climate change is not real, that oil is plentiful, and that our elected officials would never participate in anything nefarious nor cover up any details of wrong-doing I have addressed the question of what is real in The SHELL GAME in the last pages of the book.
Read the story first so you can weigh the information in its proper context, then ask the politician who clamors for your vote in the next election to declare themselves as either a Green candidate or a Fossil Fuel candidate--–because look where red and blue have gotten us. . .

This book sounds great. I can't wait to get this one. The more people it reaches, the better. 911 being an inside job and PO need to be heard. Zbigniew Brezinski wrote a good book also called, " The Grand Chessboard ". He knew the US and Britain would conquer Iraq before 911 even happened. I think he was an advisor to Jimmy Carter either for energy or military, can't remember now. Brezinski is also expecting another false flag to justify attacking Iran. Sorry to get off tract, but this new book sounds great and will be added to my library, next to Crossing the Rubicon and the Grand Chessboard.

I have just finished reading an advance copy of Steve Alten's THE SHELL GAME. It is one of the most important works of fiction of our lifetimes, in the same league with 1984 and ATLAS SHRUGGED.
I prefer to describe it as SUM OF ALL FEARS for intelligent readers.
There were moments late in the novel when I had to remind myself to resume breathing. I've read a lot of thrillers and NEVER have I had this experience.
One hallmark of great fiction in my view is when I get a rip-roaring story AND learn something. I now know more about oil than I ever imagined I would...and what knowledge could be more timely!
I hope the THE SHELL GAME is another NY Times "Best Seller" and that Dr. Alten shuns flying from signing to signing on non-commercial aircraft (if you get my meaning!).

Wow! How did you get a copy of it?
Man, I'm really anxious to read this book now. That's pretty high praise comparing it with Atlas Shrugged - a perennial favorite amongst youth. The quality of the writing is quite high, is it? Does it make some sort of philosophical point?

I read a snippet about the book on a web site, checked out Steve's web site, e-mailed him about my interest in the book and he graciously sent me an advance copy. Guess I must have hit the right day and said the right things, eh?
Understand that when I compare The Shell Game to Atlas Shrugged and 1984 I do so as a reflection of its potential relative impact. I am not saying that they are similar in other ways one would compare and contrast fiction.
As far as the Sum of all Fears is concerned - a book I would never have wasted time reading...but a film I did see - the plot lines have one major element in common, an element which dominates the thriller aspect of each book.
Another example is Wild Fire, the latest Nelson DeMille novel to make it to paperback. Wild Fire comes even closer to The Shell Game. Yet, they are incredibly distinct and different.
I did read Wild Fire, by the way, and give it 3 out of 4 stars (if you will) as a source of entertainment. Very readable (DeMille is a gifted thriller stylist) but I never had to pause to remind myself to breath while reading it. That, alas, is unique to The Shell Game.
The Shell Game is entertaining...but that is just the tip of a damned important iceberg.

Cool.
I always thought the Peak Oil/911 Conspiracy a la Mike Ruppert would make a great film. It's good to know that now there has been a decent template made in book form.
I wonder what the 911 Truth Movement as a whole will think of Alten's treatment of their contentious subject matter? In reading some of their comments about the book, I noticed many are half-suspecting some backhanded disinfo plot.

First, 1984 was also fiction...
As was DeMille's Wild Fire, yet it, too, raised issues worthy of review.
The best example of post-9/11 pure fiction is the dopey movie about the plane that "crashed' in Shanksville. It was essentially servile to the questionable "official" account of that event.
Many persons in the 9/11 Truth Movement suspect disinformation plots where they don't exist. There is enough paranoia in the world. I have no idea what Steve Alten's intentions were, other than what he has said and what intuition leads me to believe. The important thing here is that this is a contribution to the post-9/11 literature and needs to be seen in that light. If, indeed, there is an underlying motive, then so it goes. However, if Dr. Alten did have that in mind - which seems, as I say, highly improbable - then he unwittingly did a damned fine job of citing evidence that would make one suspicious of government motives and conduct where the rapacious pursuit of oil domination is concerned!
New York Times bestselling author Steve Alten is releasing a novel January 22nd which addresses the 9/11 stand down, the injection of false radar blips into air traffic controllers' screens, PNAC, the 9/11 Commission whitewash, the Anthrax attacks, and related issues.
Written in the exciting, cloak-and-dagger style of Tom Clancy, the novel -- The Shell Game -- has a shot at educating a large segment of the American public who would otherwise remain in the dark about some aspects of 9/11.
Alten is well-aware of media censorship of 9/11 truth (for example, he agrees with this analysis, he also sent me an advance copy of the book), and is trying to break through the media blockade using his resume as bestselling author to spread his message.
I just finished reading The Shell Game, and caught up with Alten by email.
GW: I really like The Shell Game, Steve. It had me on the edge of my seat, and I stayed up later than I should have a couple of nights to finish it.
SA: My books tend to be ... page-turners. The Shell Game does that and adds another twist ... it's all real, or it predicts what may really happen unless we stop the insanity. To stop it you must first be aware of it.
GW: If enough people read The Shell Game, it could bypass media censorship regarding 9/11 and reach people who would otherwise not be exposed to the facts. But if it doesn't sell well, then it will simply be an entertaining read for those already aware of the facts behind 9/11. So how are your efforts to promote The Shell Game going?
SA: We've been getting copies into the hands of key 9/11 groups over the last six months. Now it's up to them to create a buzz ... along with my mainstream fans.
GW: The Shell Game reads like a mix of Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum and Dan Brown. Are those 3 authors all influences on your writing?
SA: Clancy, Thomas Harris, Ian Fleming...among others.
GW: Your discussions about 9/11 will be familiar to those who have studied the issue. In addition to Michael Ruppert's Crossing the Rubicon and David Ray Griffin's writings, what other 9/11 writings do you like?
SA: 9/11Truth.org. And videos like Loose Change.
GW: My father-in-law says that people predicted Peak Oil decades ago, and were proven wrong. Does the discovery of the massive new oil reserve in Brazil change your conviction that Peak Oil is upon us?
SA: Unless it is as big as Ghawar ... no. Oil IS running out. If not, do you seriously believe we'd have invaded Iraq?
GW: I've heard before that many of the world's top microbiologists have been killed under suspicious circumstances, but I've never heard anyone link their deaths to an alleged plot to reduce world population through biological warfare. That was the scariest part of the book for me. Do you have any evidence that the elites are really planning a massive depopulation of this kind?
SA: Read Rubicon and extrapolate Peak Oil.
GW: Well, I hope you're wrong. In any event, thanks, Steve. I hope the book does well.
SA: With your help it will ... for all of us.
UPDATE: Bill Douglas, Janice Matthews, David Ray Griffin, Kevin Ryan, Dr. Robert Bowman and several other prominent 9/11 activists have signed the following endorsement for Shell Game:

Steve Alten's “The Shell Game” brilliantly weaves REAL quotes from real 9/11 researchers into a “fictional” narrative, that leads popular action fiction readers, numbering in the millions in the US alone . . . to an unavoidable realization . . . WE’VE BEEN LIED TO ABOUT 9/11.

Dear 9/11 Truth Seekers Demanding a New 9/11 Investigation,
In the formation of the global 9/11 truth movement there have been landmark moments that catapulted this truth movement forward:
Mike Ruppert's early work with copvcia.com and his crucial early research (which got me in this)
The first national truth conference, formed by Carol Brouillet/Ken Jenkins in San Francisco
The formation of 911Truth.org after that conference
The dissemination of the "Stop the 9/11 Cover Up" signs to groups nationwide (911visibility)

Professor Steven Jones physics research
Kevin Ryan’s blowing the whistle on inaccuracies of UL’s report to NIST
The release of Loose Change, which exploded the movement

Today, we have an opportunity to explode 9/11 truth issues into the mainstream mind, in the form of a soon to be released popular action fiction novel by New York Times Best Selling Novelist, Steve Alten (stevealten.com). If we can get 30,000 copies of this profound novel purchased in the first month of its release, we can drive it to #1 on the New York Times best seller list.
The 9/11 truth movement can do this, if we ALL push for it to happen.
Why is this such an incredible opportunity?
1) It is written by a New York Times Best Selling novelist - He's established an "adopt-a-writer" program, that has connected him with hundreds of english departments/teachers in high schools all across America and donated many copies of his book to US troops overseas, with a huge audience there.
2) Americans love action fiction (which "The Shell Game" definitely is)
3) The publisher has already purchased prime display space in the front of Barnes & Noble and Borders stores for its release
4) The author's webmaster is now creating a website for the book's release that will include major 9/11 truth websites, youtube video links, and recommended non-fiction reading on 9/11 (DRG, Ruppert, etc.)
We, the undersigned, urge everyone seeking truth, peace and justice, to not only purchase this new novel, "The Shell Game," but also to email out this appeal to all you know who seek truth, peace and justice in the form of 9/11 truth coming out.

OK, now that I've got that cleared up, I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. Not just because it had an exciting thrilling plot driven by a lead character I enjoyed rooting for, but I enjoyed Alten's stylistic approach to the story, juxtaposing it with quotations preceding each chapter usually corresponding with some real-life neo-con machination mirroring the contents of the story. I'm a huge fan of Michael Ruppert's Crossing the Rubicon, so it was great to read a fictional account predicated on his research and set in a futuristic environment. But I had a major problem with the ending, so for anyone who's read this, perhaps you have the same sense of bewilderment that I do.
Is it just me, or were things tied up just a little too neatly at the end? Not that I have a problem with Ace escaping from Saudi Arabia and living happily ever after with his kids; I was really rooting for him and was glad that happened. I didn't expect Prescott to be hung for treason, so that resolution was believable. But it made absolutely no sense that the focus of Mulligan's solution to Peak Oil was a massive switch to ethanol. Ethanol?! It really astounded me that someone who has clearly done an exhausting amount of research on the subject could believe that such an approach could be adopted on a nationwide scale and be successful. I think John Michael Greer put it best here:
The advantage of energy sources that can use existing infrastructure is one of the reasons why ethanol and biodiesel have entered the energy stream in amounts large enough to affect total liquid fuel numbers, and have helped drive grain prices to stratospheric levels into the bargain, while so many other alternative fuels languish on the drawing boards and the imaginations of peak oil optimists. Both of these can be distributed and used as though they were petroleum products. Neither one is a viable response to the broader problem, of course; stark limits get in the way of fueling an industrial economy by pouring our food supply into our fuel tanks. All the arable land on the planet is not enough to produce more than a small fraction of the liquid fuels we get from petroleum today, and long before even that inadequate point was reached, mass starvation or violent revolution would cut the process short.
So to summarize, excellent plot, good characters, great treatment of the subject matter. Maybe the ending will help sell a Hollywood screenplay, but to me it rang a little false. _________________ "Old elephants limp off to the hills to die; old Americans go out to the highway and drive themselves to death with huge cars".
