I can't review it as it has not been published yet.
But it gives rise to a deeply disturbing thought: WHAT if the corporations/the Bush gang intends to use Peak oil in the same way they have exploited earlier crises, this time to do away with what remains of free/democratic societies and establish corporate world domination and investor rights tyranny forever..

Nah, Hilleary's gross incompetence and subsequent crisises will far exceed any dreamed crisis that the Bush crew could ever deliver. And with Hilleary you won't be able to defend yourself.

I'm impressed with that video. And I'm also thinking the same terrifying thoughts as you, Threadbear. After watching this it seems obvious that the corporations with their neoliberal allies will use every opportunity to seize as much as possible in the crises to come, as with Katrina. They're always seeking to expand and plan very far ahead
And neoliberals control virtually all the media, advertising, think tanks... changing public opinion has to be the first step, but its hard to see any way to fight the trends.
I wonder if things get so badly privitised and polarized that a revolution could be possible, it certainly seems like the only hope. Americans really need to organise.
I wonder though, if said corporations etc. will have power in a depressed economy, if the dollar loses most of its value?
American society seems so unbelievably screwed by TPTB. As a European, I take some comfort in the public's attachment to social institutions and trade union organisations - I hope we put up a bit more resistance to any such 'shock' tactics. But there is a struggle in the heart of the EU between the dream of a social model, and a wet dream of a huge neoliberal continent, so maybe my comfort is misplaced. I shall watch closely to see how we deal with whatever major disaster hits us first...

Just bear in mind, that Naomi Klein is connected by marriage to a very socialist political party, the Canadian New Democratic Party". This party is always coming out against free market economic principles. It favors unions, farmers, and small business, creating divisions against banks and multinational corporations, and especially most things of U.S. influence.
They are idealistic, not not practical. Most recently, they are favoring a $10 per hour minimum wage.
Many are afraid that if they come to power, Canada will become the Sweden of North America.

As if the corporate greedsters want "free" markets. They want "open" markets where they merge, form oligopolies, consolidate power, control the political system and curtail true economic freedom by limiting real competition. So don't kid yourself. The U.S. isn't a beacon on a hill, it's flashing yellow hazard light.
And who cares if Klein is married to Avi Lewis, or if Canada were to become the Sweden of the North, as if that's a faith worse than death?

I am just saying she is not an objective journalist in much of her writings, but someone with an agenda to promote.
Certainly, becoming Sweden is not a fate worse than death. Ifr Canada had to emulate another place, its not all that bad of a model. Overall, Sweden is civilized and safe. But, Sweden is socialist and it has high taxes. I think if the USA does not like having a Communist island 140 km off shore, Americans would like even less being next door to a socialist country, sharing a 5,500 km border.

I guess I have to read her latest book. I wasn't in the mood for it before, but it does seem to be an interesting idea. The powers that be will surely use Peak Oil to their advantage as well. I just saw the book on the shelf at the bookstore.
I believe that they may be using disasters to their advantage, but it will only be a temporary fix for them. Eventually they will fall too.
