If "it's bunker time" why the fark do you care about the price of gold? You evolved some enzyme that lets you digest the stuff?

lol. Sounds like a Foxworthy-esque thread title to me!

If you recieved mason jars for your anniversary, you might be female survivalist

If your purse contains chemical glowsticks, a compact 9mm, or Pilot crackers-you might be female survivalist

If you can chicken wing the arm of a 300lb man into submission- you might be female survivalist

If you think Jackie Clay could pacify Martha Stewart in a catfight with a can of pickled okra-you might be female survivalist

If you even know who Jackie Clay is-you might be female survivalist

No glowsticks or pilot crackers, but I've got a Glock and three flashlights.

If your wife smacked you on the head for doing that because the internet is where everyone is going to regroup when the heavy crap goes down-you might be married to a female survivalist.

In my experience, mineral makeup lasts a very long time & online you can purchase many sample packets fairly cheap. I have decided to buy samples once a month to stock up on. I am also doing the same with essential oils - good for many things including smelling nice.

Hadn't though of jewlery, but anything to make one smell/look nice and doesn't take up too much room can't be a bad thing and could prove to be quite useful.

A strong, smart & prepared woman will have a great chance at surviving, add to that list alluring won't hurt.

I live a prepared life. Too many aspects to post here about what that means. Just suffice it to say that I can outwit, outlast, and outsurvive with the best of them.

I don't post on this forum very much about preparedness and self sufficiency as that is not what I value about this forum and it is not a particularly well developed discussion forum in that area - there are much better discussion forums out there for that topic. Instead, I find this forum incredibly useful in understanding and monitoring our liquid fuel supply situation.

My friends down the road, young women in their twenties and who will never post here because they are totally 'off grid', are building their own shelters, hunting and gathering their own food (including roadkill), tanning hides and making their own clothing. They can't discuss current events, but they know when the poplar bark is ready to peel for basket making, and they know how to dry bear meat for storage.

As for me, besides learning 4- season gardening, I'm hoarding salt! Smile It's cheap and will be a good barter item, plus even the folks who do prepare don't usually think of salt.
I'm also learning to make moonshine... from whatever is available....
and to make herbal tinctures from it.

There's nothing better than a roadkill sandwich on rye! Laughing

There's a German woman up the road who has the dept of highways call her every time there's fresh deer bumped off on the road. The great thing about road kill, if it's a small deer, is, it's usually very quick. The animal doesn't suffer. She gave me some of the meat, but I chucked it as am a bit wary of parasites in the deer population here. They are terribly inbred and some are not physically robust, as a result. Real heaven for parasite populations. However, if times get tough enough, I'll be calling the dept of highways, myself.

Our island is full of people who lived through WW2 and sought refuge on an island for future safety's sake. So far, they haven't needed the refuge, but that could change. An Austrian neighbour lived through American detention, post war, for a time. He near starved to death (a completely unacknowledged bit of American history) at the time. He and his wife are the "go to" people when things get tough. He has already given me pointers about where to go, in the event of forest fire, based on his experience near Dresden during the fire bombing. I count all of these veterans as such a great resource when things get tough.

- community building (not sure what it means yet Smile

Well, Julie was a little extreme in her views.

She once chastised me for not liking rutabagas. She said in survival mode one would eat excrement if need be.

I told her if things got that bad, I'd bow out gracefully and figure it was time to die in peace.

The only jewelry I might consider survival gear would be gold rings. Sometimes you can get them at pawn shops for well under the melt value!

What are fallout pills?

What are the gold rings used for - barter or?

You are lucky to get in early with gold.

I was also looking at gold, but it seems so high. Then again it will seem low at current levels if it goes ballistic.

Any good sites that give a rundown of gold or silver investment potential?

LOL! If you've ever bought fallout pills that makes you a survivalist. If you've used the abbreviation BOB, that definitely makes you a survivalist. Smile

I use to subscribe to the American Survival Guide, back before it became Backwoods Home.

I say forget wearing the jewlery and makeup. Use them for barter. Somebody will be desperate for that stuff.

Don't know if people will be desperate for jewelry I'd think they would like water and food and a cig lighter? Maybe makeup?? I don't know.

Some controversy on this subject. Some people think people will want bullion, others think they will want basic necessities.

Heh, thanks. I guess. Smile Thanks for the bitch slap about the Quik Clot, too, I'm sure I needed that. The PHTLS book is really hard core. There's a picture in there of a little kid that had serious burns caused intentionally by an abuser. Sad Mad I've been in life or death situations a few times, so I'm already a survivor, which gives me some confidence. However, it's really hard for me to force myself to contemplate things like that picture, which makes me wonder what I'm actually capable of. You just can't assess your reaction to things like that until you experience them first hand. I have no doubt I would do anything to keep my kid alive, or go to any lengths to punish anyone who hurt him if doing so wouldn't hurt him more. Beyond that, all I know is I hope I never have an opportunity to test these things. My dad got burned by white phosphorus, saw his best friend get blown to pieces, and probably shot a lot of people he didn't even know. People do horrible things when they're at war, or when they're sick from being abused. Crying or Very sad

Yes

....my discussion of a similar topic from an earlier post to an atheist forum I am on

We should never find happiness in destroying others belief systems. Nor can we find peace in the destruction or hatred of others.

When I posted this before Raven brought up the Nazis and should we just let the Nazis belief systems flourish?

Whatever I write about has to be balanced with practicality and some wisdom. When I write "We should never find happiness in destroying others belief systems." I am mainly referring the ongoing battles that evolve between theists and atheists or theists and other theists.

These groups take pride in destroying others belief or lack of belief systems many a time. They should put their pride in education for the love of humanity and not in the former of ego gratification by hurting others...if they desire to be at peace within.

As far as Nazis and the like?

My words do not mean we have to not be concerned with danger to our well being by another, but, it also reminds us we will never be at peace by fostering hatred for another. Sure protect yourself, but find no happiness in killing other living beings even if the killing is out of self defense, if you wish to be at peace within.

Take care,
