| I always read this site first thing each morning, so I figure I should start posting/asking questions. I live in Atlanta, one of the most automobile-dominated cities in the U.S., so the Peak Oil fallout should prove to be challenging... if the drought doesn't get us first. This is just a hello/first post. |

Hello Forester!
I'm curious about what's happening in Atlanta with the drought situation. What's the news?? _________________ ...the rest of you just beat your useless gums at the moon like jimson weed goats. - efarmer

Lots of finger-pointing, little real action. We're actually getting some rain (and a little snow) over the winter, but from what I've heard, it's not enough to keep Lake Lanier full. I'm of the opinion that the proverbial SHTF will occur if the drought continues this summer. Our state government has produced a watered-down (no pun intended) water plan that doesn't distribute water rights based on watersheds--all the water districts have been gerrymandered, and naturally everyone outside Atlanta suspects that this is because Atlanta wants to "steal" water from other areas of the state.
So not only do neighboring states dislike us, but other cities within Georgia do, as well. |

If it's any consolation, at least the Southeast is expected to get above-normal rainfall over the next couple of weeks.

It'll take at least several months of above-normal rainfall to really alleviate things, though. |
