At the top of every page of the forum is this link:
Usergroups
http://www.peakoil.com/gate.html?name=Forums&file=groupcp
You can now select a preferred group for your account among 3 basic choices.
Cornucopian - Subscribing to the "horn of plenty" idea that hydrocarbon depletion will have ultimately beneficial consequences.
Moderate - Subscribing to the idea that hydrocarbon depletion will have serious, but manageable consequences.
Doomer - Subscribing to the idea that hydrocarbon depletion will lead to destructive, if not cataclysmic consequences.
So jump right in and declare your affiliation.

Apart from declaring my position are there any benefits to this? Such as discussions only open to those who share my outlook on PO? _________________ We should teach our children the 4-Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rejoice. |

That's an interesting 2nd generation suggestion.
Opinions?
I'm open to trying that out. _________________ "We shall not cease from exploration

Or not... as the case may be. _________________ "We shall not cease from exploration

No, I'm not just being crabby. A few more categories? I don't completely fit. I'm in between somewhere. Ideally you need a branching algorithm or concept map to handle the complexity. Or at least a few more categories. It could be interesting to make some sort of PO family tree. _________________ "For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst and provide for it." --Patrick Henry |

Sorry... if you don't fit exactly then either make a compromise decision... or don't.

Can you imagine filtering out all but the cornucopian posts? It would read like a rap sheet on Lorenzo. _________________ “I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. What will be interesting is...
Who will post first in each new forum?
And.... begin. _________________ "We shall not cease from exploration

Alas, our membership applications to the group appear to require manual approval...which is probably a very good thing...but until we are approved, no initial posting can occur...

Looks like either Aaron or SPG fixed it, I can see the list of people in the Doomer group now. _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin |

This makes me feel like I do when I register my political party so I can take part in one or another of the primaries. I'd rather choose a third party or none, but I end up registering for one of the two majors so I get a primary vote.
Here the problem is that all the fun and popular people are joining the doomer group, but I'd like to identify as a moderate. But I bet ya a dollar and a half there will never be a forum open only to boring-ol' moderates. So, if I want full access, I need to be a doomer.
Ya know, I changed my mind. This isn't a two party system at all. It's a one-party system! Yer all a bunch of damn reds! _________________ Just another tofu-munching bike-riding Rambo(/Rambette) |
