Or, to rephrase that, there are lots of people and a fragile environment to be raped in China. I guess it all depends on how one looks at it. _________________ “Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.” (Ted Perry) |

Turtle do you know why the Chinese government has made it a priority to increase natural gas use? It is to reduce there reliance on coal burning which is causing major pollution problems.
pollution is a serious problem in China that is being taken seriously. We are trying to help them reduce pollution and you call it rape? |

So you're suggesting that Shell is an altruistic organization that is only trying to help the Chinese?
Pollution is indeed a problem in China, as the world will witness when the Summer Olympics are held in Beijing this August. But I am not convinced that the Chinese government is doing more than paying lip service to any serious attempt to clean it up.
Any time I see the juxtaposition of the phrases, "there's a lot of money to be made in China" and "we are trying to help," my cynic alarm goes into overdrive. So yes, I call it "rape". _________________ “Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.” (Ted Perry) |

Well let me put it this way. Shell is trying to supply the Chinese market (much of which is state run) with products and services that they demand. Which includes cleaner fuels.
Whoever helps China clean up there act stands to make a lot of money. Understand? |

I understand completely that responding to technologically induced problems with more technological "fixes" is what has brought us to the dire circumstances in which we find ourselves. More "fixes" will only dig us in deeper.
Paradigm shift is what is needed. _________________ “Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.” (Ted Perry) |
