Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

I have no experience living anywhere else. I have been many places iin the US but nothing beats the NW. All sorts of freaky people, healthy eats, beautiful scenery, great cycling, and friendly folks. I do love this part of America, and ok...some parts of the rest of it. But in the end...like the bumper stickers says, "I love my country, it's the government I can't stand!" haha....

I often think I would love living out of the country...my interests in cycling, art, and soccer don't exactly jive with the American male gig here!

American can be alright... Depends on where you're sitting I guess.
The front page of one of todays newspapers on my desk reads:
Quote:
More then 1% of Americans behind bars

For the first time in US History, more then 1 of every 100 adults is in jail or prison.

more then any other nation...

cost... $49 Billion...

Yeah, we had a great history...

Would any of these men would be electable today?
I'm just saying, we live in a very different country
then what "America" was founded on.

In Ukraine a strip club is a pretty normal place to take a date. Laughing
Not what my wifes into, but ya know the rest of the world is a
lot less uptight. I could walk down the street in Ukraine and drink a beer,
and not be arrested. That felt nice.

I'm not saying I "hate America", but even a small taste of freedom
makes so many other things seem trivial.

It depends on what you mean as well.

I for one love every corner of my planet...the fact that it's incrementally being reduced to rubble and trash by incompetent government and deluded society does not detract from the fact that it's a wonderful place. And America is truly splendid along with the rest.

That's an interesting point. To what extent does a lack of exposure to other nations/cultures devalue partiotism? How much does a 'valid' patriotism depend upon being able to make an intelligent, informed comparison between cultures?

I love America because it's part of the Earth, and I love the Earth. I am particularly attached to a few small patches of it that I call or have called Home.

It's like asking do I love my left nut.

I speak no other language, have lived nowhere else, and am connected to the land.

I'm continually reading American history and works by American authors.

We have an on-going project here at home figuring out how they did it here in the 1830s.

The government and about 60% of the people are howlingly insane, however.

While I haven't "lived" anywhere else, I've traveled to many other countries & I have never seen a place I would rather live!

Sure America has it's problems, but it's the best place I've ever seen anywhere. It is us, the people, that need to do a better job TELLING the Gov't what to do (or dismanteling the gov't & put a new one in it's place that WILL listen to the people).

It's our one & only constitutional obligation, and we're failing at it.

I love it with all its faults.

It is not perfect ut few place come close to giving someone opportunities that one gets in the US.

Bill Gates would have gotten nowhere in Russia , China or India.

To trick the people is easy, thus America has been ticked. Those running the show are not true Americans. They hijacked this nation on a bankrupt trajectory. The real ones are found in small towns of Vermont, Wisconsin, Arkansas etc.

Here is a good example of what I was referring to above.

Lawyer

Code:
Gitmo ‘Attack Dog’ Turns on His Pentagon Masters
Military lawyer ‘puts career on line’ to question fairness of commission system he had championed
by William Glaberson

Reminds me of the policeman who warned me not to walk on Lake Superior ice in winter when I was 9 yr. old. I had just arrived in USA Smile

Well, Bill Gates is a ruthless son of a bitch. I think he would have fit
right in running a Russian mob or mob backed business ventures.
Regarding microsoft though, he was definitely in the right place at
the right time and made the necessary cut throat moves to get the
business going. Also regarding tricking people, Bill Gates is certainly
one of the Americans "tricking people".

Advertising lies and bureaucracy is what keeps microsoft afloat.
They contribute to the software industry almost as much as they
hold it back. Almost every free version of software I've used is
superior in performance to microsoft software packages. But
businesses buy what is tried, tested and most important advertised.
Microsoft only exists because of advertising and not superior
products. People buy their product because it's advertised and
replace it because microsoft doesn't service their old versions
forcing people to waste lots of money on software and new
hardware.

It's forced consumerism, like oil companies tearing out light rail
transport so people "needed" cars more.

But no offense, just thinking...

I was thinking along the lines of being able to start a business, find money and be a self starter.

In Russia you are correct, the mob is the equivalent of innovative business model. However even here you would need connections Smile

I love the "idea" of America, much much more than the reality that exists here, and now.

The ideals expressed in teh Constitution, though they may be distasteful to fascists, communists, monarchists, and socialists are revolutionary in and of themselves.

The whole concept of liberty and freedom of interference from government is an anomaly in world history. The lone exception in all of recorded history.

Regrettably, most of my fellow citizens fail to grasp that, and vote for ever more government, war, and taxes.

Which is why I believe this country, as a functional political entity is totally Fark. I hate that but I can't see any other outcome.

That brings me great sadness when I actually stop to think about our situation and our 'preference' for Clinton, Obama, and McAmnesty.

Three birds of a feather as far as I'm concerned.

I say we buy 50 million electric vehicles, paint them all red white and blue and give them away.

The $507 billion wasted in Iraq would have bought 43 million of them.

The projected 1 trillion dollars would have bought how many?
80 MILLION

God help us all if we do not change now,
A Patriot
