Hey, now the title looks soo ....... "nice". Gee, thanx .....

Although I would love to hear somebody´s cry for help after kicking off board the captain and its crew, burning up all of lifesavers, drinking all the water, in the previous party, with the scotch and the ship just started up a waterway and is about to sink.

"We are at a state of alertness. I am putting Venezuela on alert and we will support Ecuador," Chavez told his regular Sunday broadcast Alo Presidente. "Defense minister: move 10 battalions to the Colombia-Venezuela border. Tank battalions, military aircraft: deploy!" he ordered.

Chavez told the broadcast audience that he had received a phone call from Ecuador's president, Rafael Correa, in which Correa said he had recalled Ecuador's ambassador to Colombia and ordered the mobilization of troops to Ecuador's northern border with Colombia.

He said that Colombia's military leaders had recognized that they had deliberately invaded Ecuadorian territory, something that is extremely serious. It could be the start of a South American war," he said.

"We don't want war, but we aren't going to permit the U.S. empire, which is the master (of Colombia) ... to come to divide us."

He ordered the Venezuelan Embassy in Bogota closed and said all embassy personnel would be withdrawn.

Chavez called the Colombian government "a terrorist state" as he sided with the leftist rebels it has battled for decades, saying its military "invaded Ecuador, flagrantly violated Ecuador's sovereignty."

"The Colombian government has become the Israel of Latin America," an agitated Chavez said, mentioning another country that he has criticized for its military strikes. "We aren't going to permit Colombia to become the Israel of these lands. ... Uribe, we aren't going to permit you."

"Someday Colombia will be freed from the hand of the (U.S.) empire," Chavez said. "We have to liberate Colombia."

I dont think Chavez is so stupid as to hand an excuse to be invaded by the US in a silver platter. If Venezuela or Ecuador do anything stupid it will be a godsend to the pentagon.

Colombia admits troops entered Ecuador

The Colombian government said on Sunday it had been necessary for Colombian troops to enter Ecuador for a military operation.

In response to the incursion, Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa sent troops to the Colombian border and expelled Colombia's ambassador on Sunday.

You are correct in that there would not be any considerable (read, only spec. forces and advisers) land deployment by US forces.

But I see it as a guarantee that there would be a naval blockade and air strikes to destroy invading forces and quite possibly infrastructure withing Venezuela and Ecuador to facilitate possible takeover of the oil producing regions in the future.

If the situation becomes a stagnant guerrilla confrontation in the jungles with terrorist acts supported by Ven. and Ecuador, plus threats/acting-on of oil embargoes against U.S., then I see it as inevitable that land forces will be deployed.

However, even if this pans out to nothing, there is a very high likelihood of Washington attempting to or implanting puppet governments into those two countries.

Given a serious conflict with severe military investment into the fray, then the mess will continue until a puppet govt. is established, just like in Iraq, and thats that.

Being so close to home, there's no need for carriers. Airplanes could be flown from mainland USA and refueled in flight or just operate out of Colombia. Better use the navy them where they are needed, like in the Arabian Sea, off Israel, etc.

In a week, the Caribbean could be swarming with subs and ships from Norfolk and the Atlantic fleet.

It was the same scam they pulled on Iraq. Most fell for it then. Most will fall for it now. I suspect it's getting close to time for another regime change. Another oil war may be about to begin.

Then another series of very real hangings.

Correa vows "stronger measures in the coming hours."

"Ecuadorean territory has been bombarded and insulted intentionally by a foreign government; this situation is extremely grave and intolerable," said President Rafael Correa, who rejected a Colombian apology and announced the expulsion of the Colombian ambassador.

Mr Correa broke off diplomatic ties with Colombia Monday night, saying that he "will take stronger measures in the coming hours".
