I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

.................suing Al Gore to expose 'the fraud of global warming.'

http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2008/20080303175301.aspx

The Weather Channel has lost its way, according to John Coleman, who founded the channel in 1982.

Coleman told an audience at the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change on March 3 in New York that he is highly critical of global warming alarmism.

“The Weather Channel had great promise, and that’s all gone now because they’ve made every mistake in the book on what they’ve done and how they’ve done it and it’s very sad,” Coleman said. “It’s now for sale and there’s a new owner of The Weather Channel will be announced – several billion dollars having changed hands in the near future. Let’s hope the new owners can recapture the vision and stop reporting the traffic, telling us what to think and start giving us useful weather information.”

Coleman also told the audience his strategy for exposing what he called “the fraud of global warming.” He advocated suing those who sell carbon credits, which would force global warming alarmists to give a more honest account of the policies they propose.

“[I] have a feeling this is the opening,” Coleman said. “If the lawyers will take the case – sue the people who sell carbon credits. That includes Al Gore. That lawsuit would get so much publicity, so much media attention. And as the experts went to the media stand to testify, I feel like that could become the vehicle to finally put some light on the fraud of global warming.”

Ah, yes. The great International Conference on Climate Change. Funded by The Heartland Institute: FACTSHEET: Heartland Institute

Quote:
The Heartland Institute created a website in the Spring of 2007, www.globalwarmingheartland.org, which asserts there is no scientific consensus on global warming and features a list of experts and a list of like-minded think tanks, many of whom have received funding from ExxonMobil and other polluters.

The problem is not so much what happens if the AGW scientists are wrong, the problem is what happens if they're right and we haven't done enough. Oddly enough, many of the choices that will help to reduce global warming will also help mankind reduce the dependence on fossil fuels. So, if you can show me that peak oil and AGW are both non-existent, I will happily go away to brood on the other 10 things that are imperiling the future of mankind.

cudabachi wrote that somebody named Coleman is suing Al Gore for the fraud of global warming.

Ignoring the obvious, that Al Gore didn't make any errors of fact, does this mean that we get to sue anybody who makes a mistake in public.

Can we sue Bush, and Cheney for the missing weapons of mass destruction?

Can we sue the heartland institute for putting off action on Global warming?

Can we sure Matt Simmons if he turns out to be wrong or CERA if they do?

Can we sue they guys that wrote DOW 3600?

Actually you can sue anyone, the left has been doing it for years. You may have missed those lawsuits against the Interior Department perhaps? They may be throw out but the tool of the left, and now the right, is to slow things down, perhaps interject the court system into the problem. We all know that moves swiftly.

Yes I think I misunderstood the first post. I though they were just going to sue Gore for his opinions. I still don't see this as making a lot of sense though. I mean somebody should sue the people who sell carbon credits, that market does need to be regulated, and they need to show that they are actually reducing carbon emissions. But regulating that market is the only way to make it function, if Coleman doesn't do it the Sierra Club should. Markets run on trust.

But he seems to think from the second paragraph that Global warming is a fraud.

Even if it is, anybody selling carbon credits is legally well covered by the IPCC reports. The only fraud they can commit is not reducing carbon exhaust. He implies that these little businesses are into some kind of secret plan to fake climate data. It still makes no sense.

Wow...what a charlatan! I've never seen denial run so deep in one person...and a weatherman at that.

A video interview with John Coleman about his views on global warming (the audio is much different than the transcript below it)
