If "it's bunker time" why the fark do you care about the price of gold? You evolved some enzyme that lets you digest the stuff?

no
why? because people dont like and can't deal with inconvenience
and the tv will keep them occupied
no ones going to fight take risks or give up anything of their own

maybe when everything is lost but more than likely you will see people giving away all freedom and control for bread and a warm box/cot

how do i know this? because 85% of my family is that way.. after everything i've said and tried to explain they still think " it'll be alright" and they'll be the first in line for the bread and the tv will tell them "it's ok, come here for food"

The difference between now & historic revolutions is we have a lot more sources of information saying there isn't going to be a revolution. When people used their own eyes, they saw 50% inflation, loss of free will & had revolutions. Now we've got CEO's & CFO's on the Goog to do that for us & they're finding no inflation, plenty of free will.

wait, you're saying in the past information was not filtered by those in power? well, i'll be....

And there's your problem, aflurry.

I believe so. The reason for this is because the causes (poverty) and conditions (ever-widening disparity between rich and poor) for socialist revolution will grow in leaps and bounds from now on.

Socialist revolution is inevitable under such circumstances.

When people finally feel that they've had enough, they will rise up and tear down that which they can no longer live with, or care for, or believe in. They won't need an ideological alternative to the present paradigm. They won't need leaders (not at first), nor will they know what possible outcome will be acheivable by their actions. They will be swept up in the frenzy of the moment - the mad destruction of the present order. Some people may have visions of utopia but most will be too busy sacking everything that has ever oppressed, offended, bored or stupified them. When the time comes, they will smell revolution in the air and run wild in the streets. They will feel the pounding rush of blood in their veins and learn how it feels to be alive; giving up their medicated mindless and numb existence for the excitement of an unknown and uncomfortable future. Not until all is burned and desecrated will they stop to think about a new beginning.

...or maybe they'll just watch it on T.V. I hear the revolution will be televised.

Is that some kind of vote of confidence for revolution? You know, revolution is pretty messy. It's not something to just go for on a whim. It's a last resort, and one we should not pursue as long as the democratic process is still functional.

That's the problem with anarchy, though. It's aimless and innocent people get caught in the middle of it. Only rebellious youth, loners, and misanthropes with no attachments can be actively rooting for such a thing to happen.

The red staters are still very much against the extreme left. While the working class red-staters may get fed up with their once-dear neocons, I really don't think they'll swing to the left and embrace full-fledged socialism.

The lefts power base is in the cities. Its center is in the Democratic Party. Its power base lies in the vote of the under class. In a melt down, city dwellers will be met with the same kind of reactions that met the survivors of Katrina. The locals will block the bridges to keep the hordes out of their farms and villages. Any attempt to socialize will be met with the sentiment they, the fat loafing welfare swine are attempting to steal by legislation the rewards of my labor. They will not produce for themselves so they will take from everyone else. Talk about a revolution, that would cause a revolution.

YES, but not a least for a few more years maybe. When gas goes above $4,, that will really be the beginning I think.

Can you say Martial Law. They will pull troops home from where ever they are, and beat the hell out of protesters/rioters.

Someone said earlier that streets of nieghbors could ban together and trade goods and night watch. That could happen.

But the people on the farms don't "produce" either. They buy their food and other needs at the store, just like everyone else.

(I live in a rural area surrounded by "farmers" and "ranchers", who buy their food at the store)

When the French had their revolution they quickly did away with the old order and got the reign of terror for their efforts.

The problem with revolutions is that you can't know what you will end up with when it's all over.

Perhaps people are choosing to live with the mess we have now because they have most of the 19th and 20th centuries as an example of how things could be a lot worse. It will have to get pretty bad before people today risk everything for uncertainty.

Generally you end up with "the new boss same as the old boss."

Meanwhile, back in the real world, Cuba takes its first tentative, furtive steps to undo socialism while Fidel Castro is still distracted by the draft coming in the back of his hospital gown.

Things would have to get alot worse than they are now, and they probably will, but they will have to get much worse than that even. Also there is a little problem of everything that could be used as a weapon being monitored and a huge force differential between the government whom we have slowly handed all of our personal power over to (them and the corporate boardrooms) and of course all the rest of us. You will notice that in any nation where automatic weapons become prolific armed revolt is easier to come by.

I suspect that we are on the verge of an economic epiphany the likes of which few nations have ever experienced, and as our economy goes, so goes the world economy. If the liquidity crisis deepens, and the Fed keeps throwing money and rates at it we could see $130 oil, $12 bread, $8 gas... Still I suspect that rather than falling into a Bastille Day the American sheeple will more easily swallow a plan where all the 'dead-enders' get nice jobs in one of Halliburtons 'rehabilitation' camps. The happy little hollywood shorts showing smiling and thankful program graduates will make us feel like at least if things aren't good at least the really sick people are getting the help they need.

If I had to guess the social atmosphere, most Americans are so well accultured to the feed trough they won't even blink until years after it comes out that anyone who questioned 9/11 slowly disappeared. The resistence is already slowly growing, but it will take a power greater than human will to defeat the darkness that is growing. I believe this present darkness is beyond confrontation with peace signs and love ins and even guns.

Remember that we had this talk in August this year.
