We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.
Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.
We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

I went snowboarding over the weekend at Mammoth which is on the central east side of California. It was 56 degrees on the slopes, not a cloud in the sky, and absolutely beautiful.
Spring-come-summer boarding at its finest.

We've finally had several sunny days in a row here in Northern MI. Temps have been about average.
I wait to hear from my drought stricken friends in the Carolinas just what spring will bring as temperatures once again begin to climb and plant life struggles to pull moisture out of the soil. If the weather remains as relentless as last year with increased evaporation rates, I pity this year’s outcome. _________________ The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.

Moisture conditions have improved greatly in central and southside VA, Lore, as I described on the previous page. I think NC has also received a good bit of rain lately. Of course, there's no way of knowing if the corner has truly been turned, but droughts do eventually move on.
We had some close calls with local brush fires in February.
Hope you're doing well up there in Michigan! No matter what happens down here, I think you made the right move.
Me, I may (sadly) have to reconsider a northward migration, since I have some arthritis that's gradually worsening. I can still outwork most people half my age, but I'm not sure I have a long-term future in shoveling snow and gathering huge quantities of firewood on top of all the other stuff I'd like to do. A man has to know his limitations . . .
The 10-day forecast here calls for only 1 or 2 nights to go down to freezing (and only to the freezing point, not below), so I expect to see my plum trees flowering in the next few days; the buds have swollen and bits of the curled-up white petals are showing. Forest tree buds are swelling too, esp. on the red maples. Highs are in 50s and 60s each day.

We've had rain for the last 5 days and there is rain predicted for the next 10 days. This is great news to all the dry land farmers up on the prairie. We were up on the Palouse yesterday in Moscow and it was snowing. This is almost directly north our farm; the difference being the elevation. We’re just at 1000 ft while the prairie is any where from 2000 to 3000 feet above sea level. Down here it’s spring while up on the Palouse it’s still winter. _________________ "Modern Agriculture is the use of land to convert petroleum into food."

Like others in the northern midwest, I have been watching the snow cover slowly melt. The ground is still frozen about six inches deep even in places with no snow cover but that will fix itself soon enough.

Our plum blossoms have gone by, peach blossoms came out two days ago.
It will be interesting to see if we get another frost. I'm guessing we will but wouldn't be to surprised if we didn't.
Won't be putting in much of a garden this spring since we will be moving to Kuwait the end of July. We will be listing the place with a real estate agent soon. The sheep, goats and cow/calf are for sale. Chickens are pumping out the eggs. I'm enjoying the last "spring" I'll see for awhile.
On the other hand, tax free income and all expenses paid isn't so bad either.

Kingston, ON, Canada here.
"It's been a long, cold, lonely winter"
After that massive storm, things are beginning to thaw. Tons (literally) of snow still on the ground, and ginormous mountains of it everywhere. But the roads and sidewalks are beginning to show asphalt.
It was an unusual winter in precipitation, I would say. Not overly cold, but lots and lots of snow.
Worst over...hopefully all gone by end of month. Today, mixed sun and overcast hovering around 0 Celsius. Winds light.

Got another 1-2" of wet snow here in central MA Friday night.
Still got plow-heaps of snow along the driveway, and the yard soil is still covered though the stone walls are taking a breath above the snowline again.
Been a very wet, cold spring so far. Can't imagine my First Garden In Eight Years is going to set any records for an early start. Fooey.
On the bright side, some red maples are starting to blossom, which means I'll be sneezing my head off and blowing my nose non-stop for the next few weeks.

Having had the warmest winter (Dec through Feb) ever since the thermometer was invented (in the 1750) Stockholm weather in March has became more normal. For the first time this year we are seeing freezing night time temps and falling snow.

The spring rains are missing us, it's getting dangerously dry, and I'm worried the same goddamned drought pattern is setting up. I've already had to start watering plants. _________________ "Actually, humans died out long ago."

Cold, overcast and blustery today. Hasn't rained in a while, there's a 20% chance of rain on Sunday, hope it comes soon. _________________ What, so I'm in no end game
