Sadly, I currently see it as the only solution. The only way to keep crap in check after a true head rolling is to remain vigilant like TJ said "every 20 years or so".....
You know we are waiting seahorse, just waiting on a friend with the ability to set it off.....
Many people have been buying all kinds of weapons (guns) and crap loads of ammo. I know this from radical web forums. These people are armed, dangerous and right on the edge of snapping. I'm not kidding - scary.

Well, say for example, John McCain is selected. That would do it.
Really? These people would riot because of that?
I'm glad my neighbors are mostly Republicans!
No, they wouldn't "riot", but what starts as a peaceful protest, could get ugly pretty quick. And don't think for a minute that it will be exclusively a "democrat" protest. It'll draw from all sides. People are seriously pissed and it's not going to take much.

Some "idiot", protesting about a John McCain selection, for eg....Of course the mainstream could easily frame any protest in the way you're describing.

You obviously don't live in a happenin' town like Little Beirut. Cops will use pepper spray, swing batons, fire "non-lethal" ammunition right into crowds protesting things like the Iraq War or the WTO. Watch some Alex Jones vids about the militarization of the police.
Cloud9's definition is correct. There will be protests, even violent ones, against the election of yet another pasty old white male douchebag for POTUS but you're not going to see 50,000 people in the streets taking over government buildings. The mass of people won't believe it until it stares them in the face - i.e., shortages. _________________ Cogito, ergo non satis bibivi

Shortages is the key word here.
In general, the plan to convert the populace into mindless, obsessive consumers has worked Very well.
IMHO, there will be no revolution unless there is long-term suffering due to shortages. Oh, there will be a lot of grumbling, and the occassional criminal acts, but no revolution.
A revolution requires not only displeasure at the current state of affairs, but also a rallying point for an acceptible change.
As long as the citizens get what they perceive they want in tangible goods, they are more than happy to let TPTB do whatever they want. _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto

Stop making it seem as though the masses are just innocent victims of some mythical Smoking Man from X-Files. To whatever extent we become mindless, obsessive consumers, we should blame our ourselves.

I did Not say the masses were innocent; a person is only a victim as much as They (the person) allow. And, apparently, there are a great number of people sheeple.
That does not, however, lessen the crime (for lack of a better word at this moment) by those who diligently strive to make the sheeple docile in an artificial world. _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto

No, it does, because in order for it to be a crime, you have to show that there has been some damage on them. A great percentage of these people who you say have been turned into mindless consumers, LIKE IT. The same holds true of the people in other countries who flock to McDonalds, buy our music, see our movies, and all other supposed examples of american cultural "colonialism".
If you want to challenge the status quo, don't resort to blaming the majority with having been brainwashed. That won't accomplish anything. Debate them on point.
I think you'll discover that the real reason people act the way they do is because that's the way human nature REALLY IS.

re: crime, damage: As I noted in my post, crime may not be the exact word for which I was looking. While there may not be a crime for which laws have been written to prevent or punish, it certainly is, IMHO, a moral crime. And, who says they have not been damaged? Or, won't be further damaged in the future?
re: mindless consumers like it: What a great epitaph for humanity.
The vast humanity Has been brainwashed by the government, the educational system, the financial system, the advertising system, etc.
People act the way they do because that is the way they are expected to in their own society/culture/country/community.
I have noticed in a great many of your posts that you often fail to grasp the gist of the points that others are putting forth for contemplation.
Since I tend to disagree with so many of your posts, I do not expect you to agree with me or consider the value of what I post. _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto

I don't think the election of anyone would do it, but the perception of more vote rigging ala 2000 would definitely do it. _________________ Conservation is conservative
