Boo, hiss on Norman. Razz

Plenty of pecan trees south of the Canadian River, though. And they're self-pruning, to boot.

I'll just take this opportunity to point to the index Shanny compiled with quite a few links about relocation, jobs, planning and such:
http://peakoil.com/fortopic32766.html

And add one thing:
The only difference between the rut and the grave is how long one spins their wheels.

Keep going till you get some traction Shanny!

This property we looked at today is like heaven to me. Please wish us luck to get it.

Good luck! And get used to red dirt on your clothes. Cool

Razz We lived here for 7 years, so we know what we're in for. The wind bothers me a lot more than the dirt. Laughing

Get enough land, Shanny, so you can lease some of it to a wind power company!

I'd love to have a 2.0 MW turbine in my back yard!

Absolutely, the best of luck to get it! Do you have any pictures? Hint...hint.

About 3 weeks ago I got offered a really great job, and I decided to take it. So our plans have been turned upside down temporarily. We are in the process of finding a new piece of property in Oklahoma. We will keep our place in Texas, though. This job is fairly secure even in a declining economy, and even if it falls through we will still be in a good place as far as our criteria for post peak location. Possibly better, due to the large number of friends and connections we have in this area.

We were lucky in that some very dear friends offered to keep our goats for us while we are in transition. We sold our chickens, but as soon as we have a new address we will order some new chicks. We're having to shell out some money for the move (no relocation benefits), but my salary will more than offset that since before I wasn't generating income. We are still able to keep our son home with us (I would not work if he had to be in day care) since my husband has a home business and my work hours are flexible. Smile

I have a lot more to say about this, the factors that went into the decision as related to peak oil, and what we've learned so far from our mistakes and successes, but I'll leave it at that for now because I'm tired.

Congrats Shanny, hope everything works out for you and yours!

I do wish you guys luck Shanny.

Will you have mineral rights?

It may not bother others but it does me.

BTW, don't worry about tornadoes, I have it on good authority they are a once in a few hundred year event even in the Alley.

Smile

Bergy Wind is in Norman. Good, long lasting wind turbines with a good reputation.

Speaking of wind, just make sure you have a root cellar or storm cellar, I spent a lot of hours in mine when I lived in that part of the country.

Good luck in rejoining the mainstream Shanny. I did the same thing a month ago, but my wife and daughter are staying in the davep "run for the hills" location in France.

I'm doing a weekly commute (round trip 700 miles) but I really need the money Crying or Very sad

It's always nice when you can reconcile your PO preparations with earning some hard cash.
