Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

I don't know, if it 's only me thinking like that, but the last two days something has changed in a way that I'm thinking we're doomed. I don't know what exactly it is, the world food crisis or $115 a barrel, the melting arctic ice, bancruptcy of airlines it's just everything how the doomers said.
Meanwhile Obama and Clinton fight each other instead of fighting for political concepts -disgusting!

That is still a loooong way from doom. The above has been predicted by just about everyone here (except trolls like reservgrowthrulez...) and we can see much worse without it having to go to madmax level.
If you haven't been mentally prepared even for this, you must have missed something very fundamental. Although I think you are just having a bad day. _________________ It's not a bailout, it's a buy-in" - Nancy Pelosi

don't understand me false: I always had a corner in my mind that told me, well maybe it will turn out differently, this faded.
For me, it's now VERY certain.

Perhaps this would explain it.
Seven Stages of Grief.
It is widely accepted that there are seven distinct stages in the grieving process.
The seven stages of grief for a scale that one who has suffers a loss will ascend over time.
The seven stages of grief are:
1 Shock or Disbelief
2 Denial
3 Bargaining
4 Guilt
5 Anger
6 Depression
7 Acceptance and Hope
You may be transiting from the Denial stage into the Bargaining stage.
The 7 stages are written in various ways for different perspectives but the general gist is the same.
Frankly this never works perfectly for me. I get like three stages like this:
A 1&2 combined (shock & denial)
B 4&5 combined (guilt & anger)
C 6 (depression)
I wonder if you can apply this to US society in general. I think the average American is somewhere between 1 and 2. The Greenies are pushing 3. Most PO's are in the 5 range.

I think I know what you mean. It's the disconnect from the way you hear about things on the MSM - like the subprime meltdown, the ethanol-caused food crisis, the rising price of oil, the collapsing dollar, the hopeless oil war in Iraq, - and the way they are discussed here on PO.com. It makes me think that something is not being properly presented to the public - because it's just too terrible to acknowledge yet.
You know what you can do to really enjoy this black, ominous feeling? Torrent Cormac McCarthy's audiobook, "The Road". Boy, that one will have you dreaming about digging your own grave in the backyard at 3am in the cold, pouring rain.

Alokin, right this minute, it is you.
Your concious And subconcious have finally accepted what has happened, what is happening, and what is going to happen-no matter what you do.
The hold-your-breath, tight chest, and tears will stop in a day or so.
You are about to enter a new state of mind.
But, don't worry.
Most of us know the feeling. _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto

Yes Alokin. I know what you are feeling. I've been feeling that way too lately. I've acknowledged on here that I'm not a doomer, per se, but hopeful that I can get my family through this. It is affecting me and depressing me. It even causes me to freak out occasionally.
Like the day I had a little melt down and deleted many of my past posts because of some incredible anger I felt toward this place called peakoil.com. I know. I look like an idiot but I don't give a Fark. I'll never meet many of you so who cares.
This feeling of doom can also affect decision making processes. For all the preps I do have in place, I need many more and I can't seem to prioritize as of late so that too is driving me crazy. As a small consolation, and I mean very farking tiny, people are at least acknowledging we do have a problem and they can't put their finger on it but they do know something is wrong.
I stopped trying to be the peak oil messiah a long time ago because I don't particularly like being ridiculed. Funny, those same smart ass people don't like to make eye contact with me as of late either. I wonder if they're feeling that something has changed recently as well.

Yeah well as I recall there are a lot of trolls and normal people who
can't comprehend the craziness going on today. But it was worse a
few years ago when making claims like what's happening today was
the equivalent of walking around with a sign "THE END IS NEAR".

How many time we have left? I guess not too much!
As of lately I've been trying to figure out how "we" are gonna make it thru this mess. All I know is it's gonna get ugly and fast, like within two years fast.
Keep the Faith, watch and listen for "the signs" and keep that debt down.

If you feel there is something you have to get your family though,
you may be a doomer and not know it.

There are meetup groups and users who invite people over, you
probably could meet people here if you wanted.

I've noticed similar reactions, when explaining energy issues
I haven't been getting, disbelief.

there's a few Peak Oiler's I have met when hubby and I ran the Chicago PostCarbon.org's meetup group back in '04 and '05. It's much bigger now...there's lots more people talking about it, so you may run into people now and then that have been here, posted, etc.
One never knows, but it would be nice to meet with some of you on this board, it sure takes the sting out of having to do this by yourself..which is what I think that you may be feeling.
We're here walking alongside you, you know. Have been, all the time.

I have thought about this off and on. Sometimes, I think it would incredibly wonderful to live in a community of POers. People who can and do think, who are able to understand reality, etc.
Then sometimes, I think that it is better that POers are spread out-TPTB won't be able to get everybody in one fell swoop as the fan speeds up. But, I still think it would be wise for different members to know who and where others, in their immediate area, are.

Yup things are changing, I just talked to a guy I know who has a good position in the gas company. 3years ago I asked him if he wasn't worried about Hubbert's curve, he lained back on his chair and barked "supply and demand", "economic mechanisms" and of course "technology". Well yesterday the guy comes and tells me straight ahead: "This peak oil people are right, in 10 years time none of this will be the same, none". And I tell him "yeah, oil is getting quite expensive, right?" and he is like "Expensive? Do you think that oil at 110 $ is expensive? It's a bargain! we haven't seen anything yet, before you know it we'll have gas at 5 euros per liter, then things will change, a lot" Then he starts talking about organic gardening and how he wants to start a food garden sometime. in the near future. And dudes, this guy... it's not the kind of person who starts a food garden if he doesn't have to. He has a good paying job, wears a tie and a suit, has a fat paycheck, a nice car, good prpoerty and has never shown any interest in growing food or anything vaguely close to that.
So yes, things something has changed and is going to change even more. The question for me is not really how we got here but how do we, personally, get out _________________ When someone interprets as derogatory almost anything that is said about him (or about groups with whom he identifies) we conclude that he has inferiority feelings or low self-esteem.
