Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

What say you Spec? Cool

Cant go wrong with a .22, but if your primary purpose for buying a rifle is defense against 2 legged critters....It really isnt the best choice. For small game hunting (rabbit and squirrel) I would say it is by FAR the best choice.

But really, why muck around with hunting squirrel and rabbit. For half the cost of the gun you can build a cage and stick 2 rabbits in it. Following the proverbial "like bunnies" you'll have more food then you know what to do with in short order.

Still, EVERYONE should own at least a .22 rifle IMO.

Chainsaw.

Naturally. I thought you all had the chainsaw attached already. But if you don't you definitely need to get that first.
Very Happy

Tex, Good call on the AR with the .22 conversion kit. That would be a nice all around as well...

Stay away from the Ruger Mini-14.

Holy hells bells. I love the mini. One of the funnest to shoot, most reliable, easy to take down, light, compact, affordable autoloading centerfire rifles out theres.

I have owned a Mini-14 and enjoyed it a lot, but when I moved up to an AR-15 style rifle, I saw what a superior weapon it was in MANY ways. Back then the Mini-14 was about $400 and the Colt Sporters were about $750. The cost difference was worth it to me.

Also, I believe the AR style rifles are WAY more accurate than the Mini-14.

But the Mini-14 is cool. I wonder how many of them the A-Team sold for Ruger.

If you have a mossberg, I highly recomend a Speedfeed tactical stock.

If yours is double-barreled (like mine), I recommend a lot of practice.

Best accessory for a Mossberg 12 ga? A Knox Sidewinder! 10rd drum!

Oooo! Ahhhh!

Nah! - Either a tube extension or just keep it simple.

Thanks SO much! Sorry about not posting this in the gun thread that I couldn't originally find. Think I've got all the info I need now.

Yes, I've got the chainsaw!

The russian Saiga (?) sounds cool and I will check into it more. Meanwhile, it looks like I might want to budget in both a .22 and an AR15 in the long run. Larger game, 2 legged pests and general zombies being the targets here.

The Mossberg 590 I got has a sculptured stock that fits in the hand like a pistol, so I am reluctant to change it. It's comfortable and seems to absorb some of the recoil. It is a single barrel, 8 shot, so the SpeedFeed isn't as much of a draw. I joined a shotgun range yesterday and got to shoot it to check the patterning, which was WAY more accurate than I thought. Lovely gun, the guys at the range called it a "kitchen sweeper."

Thanks so much. Business is slower this year, so I can't as easily buy as much as in previous years, so your advice is very appreciated. Glad I got some of my major post-PO items when financial times were better (water filters, bee equipment, woodstoves, etc.) This has been an awesome site.

I would put a white light on the shotgun to identify targets. Also have some extra shells somewhere on the gun. I use the Surefire fore grip.

I can grab my shotgun and have 6 in the magazine + 5 in the butt holder + 4 in the stock for a total of 15 rounds.

AR15

Or

If you want to take large game, get something in .308 (M1A, FN-FAL, HK91, etc.)

Yo Jato - gotta question on the extension yer gun has. Is there any reason you didn't get the stabilizer clamp that fits between the extension tube and the main barrel? Been lookin' for one for my Savage but no such luck so far. May hafta get a machinist to work me somethin'.

Nice gun.

Does fenix make lights that are shock-isolated? I thought that fenix didn't make anything appropriate for putting on a firearm

It is a Wilson Combat +2 magazine extension. Wilson says they are so strong; they do not need a barrel clamp.

I also have a +3 from Choate Machine & Tool. The Choate requires a barrel clamp and I use it on my other Remington 870.

Not much feedback for shotguns. Mine are basic express 8 shots 12 GA with easy off slings.

I will say I was shocked at the cost of long range magnum goose loads. Was told China is buying up all the lead. Sorry I got rid of all my shotgun reloading stuff I had lots of components. But back then shells were so cheap it hardly was worth the effort.

Here are some interesting loads

Ammo prices have at least doubled in the last 2 years, and in some cases gone up 600%. Some of this is related to the weak dollar and increased demand for raw materials like lead and copper.

But in the USA, surplus ammo prices have also gone up because there is less supply. The UN is slowly getting countries who used to surplus all their old arms and ammo for cash to quit doing so and destroy it instead. Many of these old guns and ammo wer imported by American arms wholesalers and sold to the shooting public. The days of 3 cent per round Turkish 8mm and 10 cent per round Portuguese and South African 7.62x51 are long gone.

I heard the mil is going to plastic tungsten bullets and phasing out lead copper shortly.

If that is true, maybe lots of surplus stuff coming on line soon?
