Career mechanical engineer, mostly in high speed automation, age 61. Wife is 61 and has RN training, BA in Gen Studies, lifelong student, currently a civil servant and does canning, sewing, bakes our bread (I grind flour), and keeps the books for our business. I'm a refugee from the Rust Belt auto industry, who went to machinist work a few years ago to make more money and wear grubby clothes. Started a home/farm machine shop in '03 to avoid the decline of the Big 3.

1974 started my interest in off-grid living during the oil embargo. I got into alternatives, organic gardening, The Mother Earth News (also of Hoosier origin), and moved back to my country roots. We have done subsistence farmng and logging with Percheron horses, made hardwood furniture part time, done photography, dug a well, and built our own buildings. One daughter helps in the shop and is an herbalist, gardener, and homesteader. The other daughter is a degreed Communications Engineer. I figured out Peak Oil from Marks' Mechanical Engineering Handbook in 1974, but couldn't convince more than one friend.

Practice rural psychiatry -- with a holistic approach.
Two advanced degrees.

Out of curiousity, what does everyone do for a living and what is your level of education? I am a student at Mizzou in electrical engineering.

I'm a "team manager" at a scientific publishing house. My previous education includes numerous failed attempts at getting any sort of diploma. I did finish some swimming diplomas when I was 7-8, but that's about it. I've studied Scandinavian languages and culture a bit (mainly Swedish, about 3 months effectively), then a rather "long" stint as a philosophy student (for all of 3 weeks Laughing ), both at the university of Amsterdam.

I have three Associates degrees and they sit in a drawer. I am the caretaker of the family and the farm. My husband works outside of the house. I take care of everything here that has legs or leaves. We have two toddlers, some goats, Norwegian Elkhounds, and a small farm we are trying to get going. The kids will be home schooled and I'm working on some basics with them now. And this is the best job I have ever had! The benefits are unbeatable even if the hours are very long!

I work for an oil and gas minerals company. My official title is Senior Energy Asset Analyst. I call myself a petroleum landman.

I have an undergraduate degree in economics with an emphasis in energy management.
