Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

I have to say I find this a tad bit disturbing...It wasn't unexpected (thus all of our "prep's") but I didn't think we would see it here this early. _________________ Quis custodiet ipsos custodes.

Actually this is nothing to get upset about, but it is something to watch. What about the time Johnny Carson said there was going to be a toilet paper shortage in California... guess what Californians did?
I won't be all that concerned until it starts happening in other locations on an ongoing basis and for something other than just rice. Now if rice, flour, and beans started to disappear on a regular basis in several parts of the country for extended periods of time, THEN it's time to pull out the leathers.
Oh, God! What happens if beer and chips are rationed? _________________ When somebody makes a statement you don't understand, don't tell him he's crazy. Ask him what he means. -- Otto Harkaman, Space Viking

Anyway, I kind of expected this. First it will be something small, then something else, then something else, then the first thing gets bigger, then the second, then the third....
It will be continuing cycle of small things here and there, that will eventually turn into a big thing over the next 3 - 4 years.
Sadly instead of my dream of Mad Max, Or Dark Angel. We are going to get the grapes of wrath. A slow decline that will lead to massive layoffs, limited food supplies. (not for me though) Life will change drastically and all of those damn soccer moms will choke on their suvs.
Though, watching everyone around the campus walk around.. happy, joking, having fun... It makes me wish, I was one of the ignorant masses who have no idea of how shitty things are going to get.

I agree, don't read any of the links provided unless they come from the local broadcast and don't plan beyond the next TV Guide.
When the shelves get bare is surely the time to stock up a little.

I've been hearing this about Costco limiting rice and flour purchases on other forums for about a month now, from people who actually tried to buy more and were told they couldn't. So yeah. _________________ Conservation is conservative

If you check the last number you can see how total durum wheat stores have disintegrated. I'm starting to wonder if we're going to start seeing spot food shortages - I'm no uberdoomer (yet) but some of this craziness is starting to spook me a bit... _________________ After fueling up their cars, Twyman says they bowed their heads and asked God for cheaper gas. There was no immediate answer, but he says other motorists joined in and the service station owner didn't run them off.

It's kinda weird. Almost like everything around you is fake. You know it, but the dream continues anyways. As time drifts by you start noticing little things at 1st, then more holes apear, still the dream continues. You keep wondering how long the dream will last?

Food lines grow longer in Finland. The picture is from Helsinki, last friday.
The article (in Finnish at hs.fi website) behind the picture says increased food costs have forced more people to queue for free bread in Finland.
Looks like Russia in say 1985. This is second world hunger not third world hunger in which the car would be over turned and burned and the people would be throwing rocks and bottles.

This is the same stuff I have read here for years and years: "It's The End Of The World As We Know It, the sky is falling, run for the hills. Stock up food and ammo to last for untold years". It's the Bush years motto: "Be afraid, always be afraid". It must all be true because somebody read about it here or there or heard of it from somebody. Plus, it's on the internet, so it must be true. Fear feeds on fear and creates its own frenzy and mindset.
One absolute and undeniable truth: we are all going to die. Some of us will die sooner than others, some of us will be murdered or die in car crashes, some of us will die in our own beds in our sleep at a ripe old age. However it is that I may die it will not be in fear of something that may or may not ever even happen. I will not miss many beautiful and sunny days because I hide away in fear of a someday storm. I will live a life of prudence and moderation, but I refuse to embrace the fear that I so often see wildly and gleefully anticipated here. You may survive, but you won't be living--there is a difference. _________________ "No matter where you go, there you are."
