I stumbled across an interview with David Andelman, exec ed at Forbes dot com at 7:25 PM EDT today. In the course of the four minute segment he predicted;
$300.00 bbl oil within a couple years
Oil production has peaked now
Intercontinental air travle will cease except for the very wealthy
likely to be replaced by passenger ships for the average person...
intracontenental air travle may also cease to exist and we will be back to rail or Conestoga wagon trips as oil production collapses...

Was he serious?
That will be pretty big news for the business traveller.
The new Boston to New York shuttle:

Aparently CNN/HLN is replaying the show at 9 PM for anyone who has cable and is interested. The interveiw starts at about 20 minutes after the hour begins.

I've heard Steve Forbes patiently explain it in his patronizing elitist manner many times.

I beleive it was in the context that his ancestor emmigrated to the US by ship and many people travled to the west coast by Conestoga wagon. I was trying to remember the important parts and post them so I didn't put a lot of weight in what I thought was hyperbole.

No, not negotiable. Ended. Over. Fini. No more cheap oil. The toast is burnt and the soup pot is boiling over when someoneone with that kind of financial background publically says the things he said tonight.

Somehow, I don't think actual negotiation will save us in this situation. No matter how hard any of us try to cope up with mitigation/transition ideas, it looks like the general run of people will screw it up. I don't think more time would help, either. What have we accomplished since the 1970's?
