IEF 2008: OIL AND GAS WILL LAST DECADES
| Quote: | "The availability of gas and oil resources will be enough to meet world demand for coming decades". This is one of the conclusions reached in Rome's International Energy Forum.
After having guaranteed the availability of supplies, the Forum's final paper points out that "however market and public opinion perceptions are not in line with the true geological nature of oil and gas supplies and the main factors that drive the market". |

Saudi Oil Min.: Biggest Threat to Supply is Dearth of Investments
| Quote: | The biggest danger to satisfying global energy needs is a lack of investment, Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali Naimi told reporters at the 11th International Energy Forum.
Naimi followed the statement by saying that there are currently enough reserves to meet the world's energy demands for the next 50 years. |

In future, when you post these feel good news, please note, I am only interested in clips of hard data. If these jokers have hard evidence of ample supplies in the ground and have backed up their assertions with that evidence, fine and good. And I'm sure others on here feel as I do.
I can't be bothered with these feel good opinions any longer. Not when I'm staring energy poverty in the face by the day.
In a nutshell then, OPEC has enough reserves to cover the planet's entire needs for decades simply because the Saudi Oil Minister says so. If there's all this oil in the ground, why don't they jack up supplies. For crikeys sake man! _________________ Bugger me, I hear oil's runnin out mate! |

I love the caveat.

| Quote: | | The International Energy Forum gathers Ministers of energy producing and consuming countries, of industrialized and developing countries in a global dialogue on energy. In the IEF Ministers address issues of energy security and the links between energy, environment and economic development. Their global dialogue transcends traditional political, economic and energy policy dividing lines of nations at a time of increasing interdependencies. Recognizing the crucial role of industry, IEF Ministers interact with CEOs of leading energy companies in the International Energy Business Forum. |

Ha ha ha ha.
No one saw it?!?!
Oh Dear that's rich.
Ha ha ha ergh er orf ah splutter splut.
Sorry but I just choked on some desert I accidentally inhaled.
Lot's of people saw it comming. Good grief as soon as any industrial or finance investment area moves a standard deviation away from the long term average there's an issue to investigate closely. Affordabilty compared to average income was so far out of whack from 2005 on there was no hope for a non crash in housing.
Please note my exclusion of minerals and resources they can move very far away from average when shortage occurs and if there is no replacement the high cost can be sustained. |

Ah indeed, I agree there. No one was overseeing anything.
In fact that is effectively how things operate in the neo conservative, privatise everything, the market is always right world we have in the west at the moment. This will change. Or it won't and millions will die from lack of planning. |

You're really describing tragedy of the commons which is more of a fundamental flaw of biology than an ideology. |
