with our latest spat in gas price spikes (soon to be plateaus) I've been getting quite a few of those emails cursing the Arabs for being rich. The particular ones I get seem to all focus on Dubai, probably because of their mega building projects and palaces.
Anyways, I designed up a reply email to hopefully inform the senders of the reality of the situation. Its done up in the same style as the original email. It won't make Chain letter status as I'm sure everyone will just delete it, but it was fun making it all the same.
I'd also like to point out the two images at the end. They are two charts I created because I could not find any images on the net that combined the US's domestic production with its imports or did a proper job of showing the US's consumption next to the rest of the world's.
Feel free to distribute the charts as you wish, but don't link to them please. They are held on my free ISP account with a very small bandwidth limit (just the views on this topic may exceed the limit)
so, here's my reply ---
Hi J, its always nice to get these whenever the gas prices spike. I get a good laugh at watching American centric egotism in action. I've created this reply to the author of that email. You should forward this around, but somehow I don't think it'll go as far as the original.

Well I won't go there but; most of the US's oil does not come from the middle east and Dubai does not export any to the United States (Canada does not import oil). So who is to blame for $3.15/gal?
I suggest we enjoy our $3.15/gal while it lasts. When our children grow up, they won't believe that we actually complained about it being so cheap. And our grandkids, well they just won't know what we're talking about.
end of email -----
The person I sent it to did not give me a reply, which is typical, but I thought it was pretty clever all the same .
Anyone else have any similar stories/experiences to share? |

| I'd love to see $3.15 gas. Out in the west coast it is about to touch $4 for regular. I've got my Nikon warmed up to photograph the milestone. |

| I save Happy Meal toys so that when my great grandkids ask me, "what did you do with all the oil grandpa?" I can just throw them down on the floor of the buckboard in a big heap and say, "here you go kid, have fun." |

A group of us rent a Hummer limo with driver every year to travel to our college football homecoming. It's actually more energy frugal to do that than it is to drive multiple cars. We fit about 14 people in the limo which makes it kind of like a bus. |

Yes, and as I pointed out - it was frugal decadence. And, a bit sleazy as well. The limo had these color morphing gel lights in the ceiling which could be set to change randomly, with music or manually to different colors. Of course it had a full bar with crystal and what not. |
