| Quote: | WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A ship contracted by the U.S Military Sealift Command has fired at least one shot toward an Iranian boat, a U.S. defense official said on Friday.
"It was an MSC vessel," the official said, confirming the ship fired on an Iranian boat.
Other details were not immediately available.

Obviously this report is pushing oil a little higher.
Seems like a few minor supply disruptions has helped crude prices this week. I will be curious to see what happens in a major supply disruption or something major with Iran.

Many people have dismissed this "incident", as insignificant, and merely an excuse to jack up the oil price (which it did).
http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSWAT00939920080425
But, what do you think?
Why is the media reporting this so fervently? Every other excuse before was nigerian, or bad weather, or something like that.
But this may be more significant because it gives people the feeling that U.S. and Iran are more tense than ever. |

I found it interesting that even before this happened, oil was showing remarkable staying ability in the high teens despite the "amazing" recovery of the dollar and the subsequent fall in gold. Kinda dispels the (its only up because the dollar is down) thing...
The beating drums for Iran only worsen the situation.
IDIOTS! Iran is not Iraq. It will not go down easily and I doubt if China and Russia will sit by passively if the US attacks Iran.

I'm ready for them to stop firing warning shots at these boats.
The way it is now, the Iranians know they can juice the price of oil by $5.00 a barrel or so by doing something like this and there are no consequences because they stop before anyone gets hurt.
If these boat incidents resulted in vaporized fast boats every time it happened, I wonder if these events would keep occurring.
If all I had to do to get an extra 5% or so in my paycheck was run up to my boss and say BOO! every now and then, what do you think I would do?
If, however, every time I ran up to my boss and said BOO! he hit me with a Tazer, I might stop doing it, and just forego the 5%. _________________

Come on Tex.
1. Why assume that the Iranians "did" anything? Near as I can tell, they're in a boat a few miles off their shore. We're in a boat a few thousand miles from home. Who's the aggressor? If we just left the region, then these things wouldn't happen.
Imagine if an Iranian war ship a hundred miles off the coast of the United States was just hanging around because that was its assignment. And then they fired a rocket at one of our boats.
Any doubt how that'd be reported. |

| Quote: | Word that a U.S. ship had fired on the boats in the Persian Gulf raised concerns that a conflict between U.S. and Iranian forces could cut oil supplies from the region. Light, sweet crude for June delivery jumped as high as $119.55 on the news before retreating to trade up $3.08 at $119.14 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
It was the latest in a series of incidents between U.S. forces and Iranian boats in the Gulf. |

think this through man. You're an attorney after all! What would you REALLY do if he tazed you?
You'd sue!
Even if your boss had good reason to taze your sorry ass and then boot you on to the sidewalk out in front of the office so you could flop around a bit while fireants bite you, defending that reason in court or via a settlement process is going to cost him dearly. Combined with a few other hits from other competitors or even other lawsuits from underlings who got tazed, that could lead to bankruptcy.
That's the same situation here. Even if the U.S. had a good reason to blast them, that could set off a chain reaction and really screw the pooch, as the saying goes. _________________ http://www.peakoil.org |

| Excellent logic Tex. I agree, however I hope the boss then doesn't decide to kick the sh*t out of the employee. |

hmm. allegedly.
regardless,
it's still regarded as an at of war.
That's why the wires are going mad, Sky has it as it's main header replacing Diana and oil has jumped $3.
Now the world knows, Iran has to be seen to respond. Question is how? _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSFLSTb5KfU
