How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?

I'm afraid I'm going to have to go with Ludi on this one. Too many supporters of Obama or Clinton say if their "guy" doesn't get the nomination, they're voting for McSame.
I'm voting against McSame no matter what.

But that's because they keep attacking each other NOW. In 5 months with the election just a few weeks away, McCain and the Repubs will be slamming Obama for the same things that Hillary did and all of that good-will towards McCain will evaporate. He will be exposed by the half billion dollar machine that is Obama's treasury for the corporate hog Neocon that he is (or at least running as).
If you think that people will remember what's going on now in 5-6 months, then you give the American public way too much credit for their memory. Hell, can anyone remember what the NH debate was about? That was only a few months ago. Obama won 12 contests in a row?! 2 months ago.
Don't look at the general election numbers now when they aren't even having a general election campaign (at least the Dems aren't), same with media coverage. McCain could have a heart attack and Hillary would still be bashing Obama over a trivial issue and vice-versa.

Yet we keep seeing record turn-out contest after contest on the Democratic side. This is a race that the Dems don't want to lose. If there are Dems that stay home, there are probably an equal number that will stay home on the McCain side because of his liberal leanings (see Global Warming, torture [sometimes], previous tax cuts, etc). _________________ Riches are not from abundance of worldly goods, but from a contented mind.

The whole thing is a farce, and I'm certainly not voting for any of the three stooges, but I have to say, of the three, Hillary strikes me as being the most noxious. _________________ "I was born in a deep forest

OMG!
My roommate and I laughed our asses off at that one. Thanks for the link.
It doesn't surprise me that Hillary is proposing a multi-billion dollar bailout for the auto industry. She's pandering as hard as humanly possible for the lunch pail democrat vote in Indiana.
If she doesn't win there, she's finished.
Well, she might still fight onward but in the eyes of the super delegates, her run for the nomination is over. _________________ "www.peakoil.com is the Myspace of the Apocalypse."

Mark my words.
You are right. Hillary is determined to either:
(1) be nominated by the dems
(2) force her way onto Obama's ticket as his VP or
(3) damage Obama so that he loses badly in 2008, leaving Hillary to say "I told you so" and position herself to run and win in 2012.
