I just thought I'd give you an update on our gun situation.
As you may recall, my wife was very anti-gun. After getting a 20 gauge double barreled shotgun she, erm, grew to enjoy it. Now she's saying that it's hers. That hurts (given I had to be rather ingenious to get hold of it).
So, this weekend, when I get back to La Belle France I intend joining a local gun club. Hopefully, six months down the line I can get myself some serious hardware. I'll let her keep the shotgun _________________ All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become. - Buddha |

I thought I would pass this along. I was cruising the websites of the old wholesalers I used to buy from when I had a collectors license, or need some ammo.
If you need a pistol, Aim Surplus has Sig Sauer P225/P6 pistols (which were surplussed from the German police) for $260. This is a STEAL. Sig Sauer makes one of the most durable pistols in the world, along with HK. Their round count and functional life should exceed 50K rounds easily. The pistols will be slightly used but will be in excellent functional condition. I've bought from AIM for about 8 years now and know them to be a very reputable organization. I always like to pass along deals like this. I don't know how long this link will be active and they will probably sell out in days/couple of weeks.

| I'll second the good words on Sig Sauer from GeoJAP. I carry a Sig all the time. We have a few of them in different calibers and models and none of them have ever failed. I carry a p232 around the house and in the yard (we live in the boonies turn left). The p239 is my nightstand gun and concealed carry gun in the winter. They are easy to take down and they function flawlessly. For the ladies ... the LadyFist holster by Fist is a super holster. |

I just got back from the range. I put twenty five rounds through my Mosin-Nagant rifle and carbine. The ammunition was manufactured in 1950 in Russia. It worked flawlessly. Those that think they can choke off the flow of guns by eliminating ammunition imports have a long wait before this stuff becomes inert.

Non corrosive I hope, or you need to clean the gun immediately after shooting. _________________ "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the

That would be my vote as well.
I think the .357 especially is very hard to beat. _________________

357 sig, as I understand it, is exceptionally difficult to reload. _________________ "So while you sit and whistle Dixie with your money and your power.

| I spent two hours this afternoon scrubbing the bores. I live in Florida. With our humidity, they will rust before you can get them home. |

Hmm, I have a Ruger Security Six in stainless. Bought it from a jewelry store owner about 15 years ago.
Nice weapon. _________________

I've never had a problem with old 7.62x54r or 8mm corrosive ammo. It shoots very well. I spray down and clean the bore with a few squirts of window cleaner with ammonia to remove the corrosive salt. Then I clean and oil the bore normally.
If you are in a bind and need something to clean the corrosive salt and you don't have any Windex, you can actually just urinate in the bore as it will remove the salts as well. Then clean it normally.
I have never shot corrosive ammo in any of my semi-auto rifles as that would create a more difficult cleaning burden because you have to clean out the gas system then.
I have a couple of .357 magnum revolvers by Ruger. A GP-100 and SP-101. They are fantastic pistols. I prefer .40 S&W over .357 Sig, however. I bought a Sig 239 in .357 Sig and immediately replaced the .357 Sig barrel with a .40 S&W barrel. I like the .40 S&W recoil more than the .357 Sig and ammo is also a bit more common and cheaper right now. www.ammoman.com is a cheap and very reliable place to buy ammunition, if you happen to need some. |

| I use three cleaning rods. One with a solvent patch, one with a wire brush and one with a cleaning jag. I keep pushing them through until I get a clean patch. The level of pitting in these old military rifles lengthens the cleaning time. It took 3 weeks of hour cleaning sessions to get my trap door clean. What looks like a clean bore is just another layer of lead fowling. You know you are winning when you finally get down to the bottom layer of rust. |

I did a job for my neighbor a couple of weeks back.He was kind of unlucky in life and Ive been watching him trying to build that one room house for the last three years scrounging materials here and there, so I felt a littler sentimental and made the guy a set of kitchen cabs.
Make a long story short,he had this old rust bucket single shot Spanish 12 ga.,the kind you have to cock the hammer back and then pull the trigger, thing must be fifty maybe seventy years old.It was hanging in his shed on a nail, rusty as hell.Couldnt even see through the barrel.Couldnt see any part of the shotgun for that matter.
So he says,"here take this in return",poor guy, didnt have money to pay me,I did it as a gesture anyway, didnt expect anything.
I took it apart, and let it sit in diesel for a week. Then I put a brass buffing wheel on the drill press and buffed off all the rust, then I ran machine polish through the barrel.
Then after the rust was gone I gave it a MarineCorps cleaning.Q-tipped all the nooks and crannys.
The front of the barrel had a kind of angle to the left when I sighted it,so I took the cutoff disk to it and trimmed it down a bit.
My neighbor walks in the shop and sees his old,my new shotty.lol
cant believe his eyes.
I still have to make the wood parts to it before I see how far it shoots, but all in all,it was a fun project. _________________ ΜΟΛΩΝ-ΛΑΒΕ |

I've finally convinced my husband to get a shotgun, he's planning to buy a Benelli 12 guage. I hope this week!
I'll just keep bugging him till he buys it. _________________ No original ideas are contained in this post. |
