I purchased a Remington 870 synthetic express 12gauge and am in the process of trading some wheels&tires for a bushmaster AR15 A2 16". I figured I may as well ditch some car crap that won't be worth as much as a nice rifle. The only weapon I feel I will need to procure will be a pistol.
Do any of you know of a website that explains the cleaning/lubricating process of the AR15?

A great all purpose rifle, though I prefer the 20" HBar model.
Everything AR 15 --> www.ar15.com

ar15.com will have everything you ever, ever wanted to know about the rifle. They tend to have very jocular, cavalier and aggressive attitudes over there though, so wear some thick skin if you want to stay there long term. I don't like the place myself and do all my reading at thehighroad.org. They are heavily moderated and their mission statement requires manners and courtesy in their discussions. |

Thanks Dom and Geo for the links.
I found a cleaning thread over at ar15.com. Looks like this gun comes with a case and two mags (10 and a 30). I'll take it out to the property and probably leave it there in a safe. I'm still waiting for the original owners to find a new house before I start major work. _________________ "Those who long for exaltation look upwards, but I look downward for I am the exalted."

Need advice. (Looks like I will be asking for some here more often)
Background : In NZ, you need a very special permit to get a handgun, and it can't be used for self-defence, etc, but only for pistal target shooting, etc. That's the simplistic view, but suffice to say I may be ready for one very soon.
Question : For quite a cheap price, I'm looking at a Glock 21 @ .45acp with roughly (best case) 3000 rounds through barrel with a lighter trigger disconnect bar installed for smooth trigger. Opinions appreciated.
2nd Question : for 5 times the price, I can get a brand new HK USP 45 tactical. What do you all think? _________________ regards,

Rostov,
I'm familiar with Glock 21, Glock 17 and various Sigs in 9mm and 45. I have small hands, so, the Glock 21 isn't as good a fit for me personally as say a Sig 45 (8 shots). However, the Glocks seem to be virtually impervious and extremely reliable. For example, although I love the Sigs, they certainly rust much easier than the Glock. For me, someone that will never be a great target shooter and will be shooting at 20 ft or less, I just want something real reliable. So, I would probably choose a Glock over most others, simply bc of reliability and simplicity. |

Thank you seahorse. Coming from an ex-serviceman and a person who understands the long term needs of another PO'er, that means a lot.
I'll just put much more training into the grip and double-tapping .45 more accurately, that's all. _________________ regards,

Hi Rostov,
I appreciate your confidence, but you may not know that Jato's life and livelihood (police officer) depend on his sidearm. So, if he says +1 on the Glock, you can feel confident that you can't go wrong. I would put full trust in anything he has to say on the pistols, shotguns, and assault rifles. |

That's quite a mind-blowing revelation : that one's life (many years of it) on the frontline depends on the sidearm one possesses.
Not going to pass this chance up. Going glock for long term dependability.
Thanks Jato, Skyemoor, Shannymara and Seahorse. Once in awhile I need a hard knock on my head when faced with an obvious answer vs a nice-to-have scenario (legally allowed suppressor usage). This is going to take me about 6 mths but hell better start now then never. _________________ regards,

Just a friendly reminder to always practice with your firearms, lots and lots of times.
Just came in 2nd for a carbine day service rifle shoot. Using a 16" M1A, I lost a few points behind an AR15. South african mil surplus. Weak hand firing included in course of fire. Rain. Muddy. Cold. Once of the nicest actual scenario practice I've gotten for a long time.
Getting a gun ain't much if you don't put aside enough time (for practice) and money (for ammo) _________________ regards,

It's got an inbuilt magazine and does not need a clip. What does your instruction manual say?
