Thanks for posting this, Ludi!

I never knew how many people out there (a lot of them men) knit, crochet, sew, weave, and spin, not to mention grow their own fiber until I got involved with our local fiber arts group.

I've known how to sew and crochet since I was a teenager, but I've been learning some of this other stuff just recently. I like knitting socks the best so far.

I'm moving very slowly with my own fiber projects. I finally washed some wool, but have not yet even carded it - and it's time to shear the sheep again! Shocked

This is my favorite knitting help site: KnittingHelp.com

It has videos of how to knit all sorts of things, step by step.

Here's a site with fiber art terms and definitions that I found really helpful.

If you want to get really primitive (and you have a lot of rabbits), here's a site that shows you how to make a rabbit skin blanket (it really looks nice and warm!).

I love that handspinning site you posted, that's the best one! Very Happy

I had a hard time figuring out that first felt boots pattern ... did you understand it?

This link from that page makes a lot more sense to me. Those boots look pretty cool when done!

The tanning article is good! I've done a little brain-tan, and can add that a "fleshing horse" is helpful. That can be as simple as a, smooth, de-barked log propped up to a comfortable sitting height. You straddle the log and lay the hide on it to do the scraping. The support for the hide makes scraping easier, but presents the risk of tearing through it, so experiment before starting in the best part of the hide. The tool for scraping, a "fleshing knife", must be dulled enough to not cut through the hide, a bit of expertise best arrived at by experience.

A few years ago, I purchased a virtually unused, late-model Nordic Track from Goodwill for the grand total of $7.50. These things retail for $500 and up, I believe. This was my most spectacular purchasing coup ever; I'm so proud of my achievement that I've left the price tag on it.

And guess what? I actually use it.

A few things are hard to get at Goodwill. Shoes and pants (that fit, anyway), esp.

Shoes are my main concern in the what to wear department, a problem I haven't solved. My husband and I buy the rather expensive SAS shoes. I think I will try to find some kind of workboots for myself soon, because I burn through the walking shoes very quickly. My husband has horrible feet, and is soon to visit a foot specialist. I just don't know what to do about shoes for him in the future. He buys these expensive shoes at least every six months.
