Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

I'll look up a storm shelter thread with the new Google PO.com Search Engine when I have a chance. This is good stuff.

Kathy:
As far as a rebate from FEMA, I'm not so sure I would want them to know about its existence.

kpeavey,
Oh, I agree. If I'd had to apply to FEMA I wouldn't have done it. The money comes through county general funding. You apply to the county judge for reimbursement. Basically you just send a copy of your receipt and a photo, and you get money back. That simple. It just has to meet FEMA guidelines - the money doesn't come from FEMA.

We got a check from FEMA after the flood a few years ago. A person came out to inspect the damage, and we got a check. I don't recall it being any difficulty at all.

Thanks Kathy and all for the concern, made me feel pretty warm you were asking about us and that Shanny called to check.

Things are pretty bad in Pitcher, OK. It is a Superfund buyout site (lead mining in the day) so the folks who got blow were probably the ones that chose to stay.

It's The Little Girl this year so there is lots of stuff coming down from the NW coast but there is also lots of warm/wet coming up from the Gulf which I'm thinking is a little different. Shanny has a better knowledge and access to records than me so I hope she'll chime in...

March and April were record setting months for rainfall in the Ozarks (the first back to back months setting a record - on record here) and this month seems only somewhat less severe. The 64 y-o neighbor who lived here all his life says he has seen nothing like it- no suprise there huh?

BTW, Homesteader, this isn't a global warming thread, more one about folks here checking in with each other - so cool your jets.
