In Romania can you really spend a night in Draculas castle?
Does the Bathory castle still stand in Hungry? I just have to go to eastern Europe.
I also want to see Ireland where my ancestors came from. |

I have been in Rumania 2 years ago. The birthplace of Vlad (check Sighisoara in Goggle earth, lot of pics), is a restaurant now, very nice, you can buy plates there with the coat of arms of the family. In the same bulding is a nice pub, period decorated. There are 2 hotels in the old part of the city, with period/medieval decoration, both are very nice.
I haven´t been in Hungary, not idea.
Hope this helps

Just an aside. The country's official name is Romania (from Rome). Apparently the spelling "Rumania" is viewed as offensive there since "Rum" is the Turkish way of referring to Rome, and the Romanians fought the Turks for a very long time.

If you're into things goth and vampyre, and in the UK in October, then you have to be at the Whitby Goth Weekend!. Whitby was where Bram Stoker had Dracula make landfall in the UK in the original Dracula novel. You could even stay at Number 7 Guest House where the fictional Jonathan Harker stayed I believe!
It's the Goth mecca of the UK. |
