You are right, I guess I did not specify my situation and resources, that probably is pretty important when choosing which books I might need. Understood. I do have my Bible.
I am self employed, (product based, sucks right now), have a wife and two children, 11 & 4. Live in rural North Florida, on 2 acres, mostly wide open (few oaks small, few pines, a sand pear tree and blueberry bushes, both produce to some extent each year, submerged pump/well, no municipal city sewage or water ,). No real survial skills or food production/storing skills (being honest). Want to learn all above, this is how I came to find these forums. I have read and read, and have picked up much great info here.
Before I found this site, I decided to plant a garden to help feed the family when the economy gets worse, and food becomes scarce or priced out of reach. BUT, now that I found this site, I realize that I did not plant nearly enough, nor enough variety. I have a lot to learn, and by the looks of things, a short time to do so.
Trying to get preps made in order to provide for my family in the hards times ahead. Again, I am new to this, apreciate any help you might offer along the way, I will probably ask some pretty stupid questions, but am reading through this board, and cannot get enough, also, order the Country Living Encyclopedia, which looks like an invaluable resource, so I am trying to close the stupid gap.......... I am sure I left something out.
Want to learn:
How to grow and store enough food to be self sufficent. Garden, bushes, fruit trees, smoke, dehydrate, root cellar and can/preserve. Purify rainwater collected, or pull from our well when no electricity and no fuel for generator..
Protect the family and homestead
OK, as you can see, pretty green, and a lot to learn, what resources do I need, oh, and I guess we should bump it up from 5, to lets say 10, TO START ?

The Secure Home
Where There is No Doctor (available free online)
Where There is No Dentist (also available free online, I think)
after the other 5 I recommended. Having read your last post, I still recommend the same original list.

OK. Some of these have been mentioned before but here are the five which I own and use:
1. When Technology Fails by Matthew Stein. This was written originally in 2000 and has been updated and revised. Mr. Stein was ahead of many in advocating low tech solutions to problems of living after the lights go out.
2. The Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emory. This too has been updated, revised and added to many times over the years. Good stuff in here.
3. Where There is no Doctor by David Werner with Carol Thurman and Jane Maxwell.
where there is no Dentist by Murray Dickson. These two I consider a set and I believe either or both could turn out to be more valuable than we might realize.
4. Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse by James Wesley Rawles. This is a fictional account of one possible scenario for collapse which is filled with practical advise and techniques for survival in an Armageddon level catastrophe.
5. Edible Forest Gardens by Dave Jacke with Eric Toensmeier. This is a massive two volume set dealing in detail the ins and outs of creating a natural forest garden which will sustain itself for many years while supplying food, herbs, material and a mind healing setting for reconnecting with our roots. The first volume deals with theory and vision. The second with design and implementation.
I admit that this list is a practical compendium- a nuts and bolts bundle of how-tos which make no pretense about being great literature. However, if your plan is to survive and then worry about whether you should own a copy of "War and Peace", these are the ticket. Should you also pack your comic collection? Sure, why not?

Sounds like you are in a good place fp!
I'll also chime in on Encyclopedia and When Tech Fails. Also some type of DIY home maintenance books (no suggestion for titles) a good basic cookbook or 3, I think someone mentioned Fanny Farmer and the Bluebook which we have.
I'd also recommend from this sit the Food Storage FAQ from the Downloads section in the menu at left and the Assessments and Plans and The Five Rules threads you can find in the index at the top of the forum.
Don't forget there are no stupid questions...

I would have said the Bible, but if you haven't already got one and know it well you won't find it to be much other than confusing. It is definitely good to have a Bible, in other words, but to use it the book needs to be on your tongue rather than between the covers.
