I'm 0 for about 30. _________________ Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group. |

Why be worried when George Bush is leading the world? I sleep like a baby knowing that he is preparing us for peak oil and economic / environmental collapse. And, in the event he lapses, we have Cheney as a failsafe backup.

Have you actually found anyone who, at the end of telling them all this, actually accepts it right off and doesn't immediately go into protective denial? If so you must have one hell of a presentation. |
There is a fellow I work with who has a vague understanding of a lot of doomer topics. When I lay out some of the peak oil elements, and then begin to just bang away on them like a jackhammer his head begins moving up and down rapidly and he has trouble speaking. But he doesn't disagree. I always tell him to please try to formulate a good argument, any argument, for why what I am saying is not only true, but inevitable.
The best we have done when playing both sides of the issue is that the U.S. has enough land to feed the U.S. population for a long time, and enough coal to provide the U.S. with at least some form of fuel and a commodity to trade with other countries for other essentials for a long time as well.
I know that's hardly a rosy scenario, but that's the best case I see, which is just to say that the U.S. will be better off than a lot of places that don't have enough land to feed its own population and no natural resources at all.
The U.S. being separated from the rest of the world by two oceans will also be helpful. I think the Canadians will cooperate with us, and the fence being built on the Mexican border will eventually function as a barrier to keep out the latino zombie hordes.
Ought to be fun. _________________

Too many people, failing economies worldwide, lots of "liquidity" squishing around = price of basic goods - read food and commodities - go up. |
You don't think that central banks, coordinating their efforts, isn't a strong red flag that, if not "conspiracy" in the pure sense, there is an organized drive to perpetuate the safety and persistence of the elite? What if this coordinated drive conficts with the best interests of the governed? And what if some of the agreements aren't transparent (secret, in other words)? |

Quite a surprise when you discover something new about yourself, itsn't it?
That adrenolin rush when you jump from one plane of existence to another is a biggie. |
Well I read a lot of dieoff.org and do read thru latoc regularly so its not a huge jump. It was disconcerting to recognize such a basic defence mechanism asserting itself even though I consider myself relatively enlightened about such issues. Only human I suppose. Wasnt nearly as disconcerting the first time I read latoc though! Its what brought me here.

By the way Mr. Savinar thank you for scaring the crap out of me.I appreciate it and still kinda resent you for it. I cant help it. Shoot the messenger, damn this human weakness. |

Actually, I've had quite a few friends accept right off. In part, that's because I have a bunch of really great friends. On the other hand, I can honestly tell them that -- despite all the things our greater community still needs to do -- we pretty much live in a fairy tale given how prepared our area is already. Especially relative to the rest of America. |

Why, of course, dear. Would you like my homemade chocolate chip, or those cute little thumbprint sugar cookies with the raspberry jam in the middle? I have plenty of cocoa (having bought several of those 50 pack boxes at Sam's!). _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto |
