I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

Hello All!,

Lately, while driving to and from the homestead, I have been finding myself taking notice of Pecan Trees, Bamboo and Sugarcane patches, a fresh water spring, and other local resources, all of the above are on county or state land.

I have been thinking, that I probably will not be able to remember all of these places and should create a map, maybe including a radius of 5 miles around our place, of all the resources available, if our resources run out, or a storm that takes out our crops for a season, etc. ALSO, maybe something happens to me, the main provider of the family, this information would be helpful a very helpful tool to the family left behind.

Yes, I know, it is better to be prepared ahead of time, and we are working to becoming self sufficient , but if nothing else, it can't hurt to have a backup plan.? I also realize that many of these resources will be hit before I need them, but I also plan to get familiar with the "off the beaten path" resources also.

Way back when we lived close to town, close to a tertiary target airport, close to a railroad switch yard and container lift, etc. I had some printed plans along with bags for various situations in a handy place. Meet-up locations, instructions for routes and stuff.

But we also biked around, got off and picked berries and ate wild peaches along the canal banks - great emergency routes where you have them and if you have a pair of bolt cutters handy.

Maybe take your bikes out for a ride now and then, mention this feature and that one, explore here and there, no notes necessary!
