Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

I agree with Roc. It's funny, I thought that, at least twice, before reading Roc's post. I suppose I should have posted.
The title is unnecessarily juvenile and profane and hysterical.
I'm, also, surprised that a Mod went with it. _________________ Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.

I was thinking about a guy up the street from me. When I told him 2 years ago that oil was on a downward production slope and would become more and more expensive over the years, he scoffed and gave me a look like, "oh boy, another nut."
I always figured that spiking oil prices would bring around many of the DSE.
I overestimated them.
Instead, what appears to be happening is - in the face of growing evidence - DSE heels are digging in, and they are grasping at whatever DS is put in front of them - speculators, Geopolitics, whatever - anything and everything except the obvious - supply.
....
We have some DSE here too!
I won't name any names, because they're pretty easy to spot.......they're usually the rudest people on this forum.
I have a theory that no matter how far down the slope we get there will always be DSE. Even if half the world population dies off from starvation there will be DSE. There's a lot of fools out there who think there's a giant pool of oil the size of Texas sitting somewhere on this planet but it's being "closed off" by environmentalists, terrorists, insert your favorite boogyman.

Well Maybe I did overreact a bit and actually thought about that, but I posted within a minute or so under an emotional outburst at the idiot on the tube. Probably should have sat on it for a bit.
But I'm gonna keep it because it shows how at this stage of the game there are still members of the "machine" who just dont get it. With attitudes and misinformation like this it is going to be a very difficult road to travel towards change.

There was no "misinformation". He said "a billion gallons" ... not barrels. Both the whole conversation and this followup thread is ludicrous. _________________ www.TrendLines.ca/scenarios.htm Home of the Real Peak Date ... set by geologists (not pundits)

I noticed that, but I make an allowance for mis-speaking. He meant barrels. The conversation was indeed ludicrous, but this thread is not. Laughing at the analysts' public faces is healthy - it serves as a "check and balance" imposing a limit on how much bullshitting one can safely get away with, and with any luck reminds everyone to leave the real work to the backroom boys. _________________ Volatility. And a billion gallons does not equal 7 months, even with the SPR.
He also said, and I quote "The world is awash with oil". Now Freddy I dont care what you think, but that statement is patently ridiculous. There is no way around it and you know it.
It's important to raise the bullshit flag when warranted. A title change for the thread IS in order......

I liked the old title, because that was my exact reaction when I saw that segment.
Neither of them had a clue about the real situation. That little BS session could have used Matt Simmons for a reality dose. _________________ Joe P. United Political Debate

$100 trillion Matt?
60-mbd All Liquids by 2015 (which indicates a 1506-Gb URR) Matt??
He's a reality dose???
Oh please ... he's worse than both of 'em! _________________ www.TrendLines.ca/scenarios.htm Home of the Real Peak Date ... set by geologists (not pundits)

Freddy, you're very adept at criticizing others, but you're not perfect either. Your charts and website are migraine inducing messes and your predictions are patently absurd.
Quote:
2013: 91 (Peak Year & Peak Rate)
2035: 86 (probable similar Supply Rate as 2008 but on other side of Peak)
2036: 85 (same as 2007 but on other side of Peak)
A 23 year plateau? Are you kidding me?
And you use this falsehood:
Quote:
The Worst Case Scenario (WCS) was recently introduced to put in perspective the persistent "running out of oil" comments by the lunatic fringe!
There is NOBODY here that is saying we're running out of oil. As a matter of fact I don't know anybody anywhere that's saying that at all. It appears the "lunatic fringe" exists in one place only, your mind. _________________ Joe P. United Political Debate

When/where did Simmons make this projection? At any rate he's not a guy I'd go to for models; his strengths are in bringing attention to the situation in toto, or with TITD, the specifics of KSA. You didn't hear anyone in that clip talking about the declines in the North Sea or Mexico, or the lack of preparation to deal with supply shortages in the OCED.
Incidentally he's surprisingly more of a late starter to the subject of peak oil than Jay Hansen: In his Revisiting the Club of Rome PDF from 2000 he makes the curious statement that "Since petroleum is the only energy that creates transportation fuel, it should continue to grow well in to the middle of the 21st century." _________________ Cogito, ergo non satis bibivi
