Hell of a set of choices...
I picked Savinar just because he has apparently resigned himself to getting nuked and said he hopes it lands on his head when the nukes fly, but I think Aaron and Simmons are pretty much tied.
Question - who amongst us doomers has a fallout shelter, or serious plans to build one soon? Have you dug a hole yet, Aaron? |

No shelter.
I do own a few CBW suits with NATO Masks though. Won't withstand heavy rads, but will provide some protection against fallout. Supposed to work very well against chem or biologic weapons though. The suits are Canadian believe it or not, which were the most expensive available actually.
Canucks ... who knew?
Some here will feel that's an extreme reaction, but I always use the condom analogy:

i'm grateful to have someone like Matt Simmons as a reference. people will still dismiss him, but it's hard to dismiss a guy who manages $60 billion worth of investment bank in Houston as a hippie.
if he's speaking about war in the future tense, that sounds like a euphemism. it's already started, e.g. 9-11 & the Iraq War.
i think one of the reasons Mike Ruppert picked Ashland Oregon as a place-to-be-when-TSHTF is because of it not being near any military bases. _________________ http://www.LASIK-Flap.com/ ~ Health Warning about LASIK Eye Surgery |

You misspelled his name, Aron.
Don't have some codec installed so the images came through in psychedelic color negative...puts me in mind of the song Seven and Seven Is by 60s LA rockers Love, which ends with an H Bomb going off.
Matt knows WWII gave industry plenty to do. He envisions money in the bank from all that strife; I'm sure he would've rather seen us mitigate fully in advance, but as a capitalist he sees there's work to do, otherwise why put together a PPT about rebuilding the FF infrastructure?
Savinar on the other hand...I see he's way out ahead in the poll. Nothing there. _________________ Cogito, ergo non satis bibivi

I think that PPT on infrastructure did move him stronger into the doomer camp.. I can't see him getting chummy with the survivalist end of the spectrum though.
I voted for Aaron because it would make him happy... Matt Savinar is probably the real deal though

| Nah, this "war" thing is just another layer of denial. Grandeur delusions if you like. Believing we are so important that we deserve to go with a *bang*, when we will probably just go with a humiliating squeak. |

God man I hope you are right.
Because if you're wrong, I'm moving in with K_sem over on the east side of the state singing, "Global warming is a hoax K! Let me in and give me one of your guns and lets stop that liberal horde!" (Whether it will work and he'll let me in is another story, he'd probably just shoot me on the spot...) |

Every single usable weapon will be used, no child will be left behind
Aaron and simmons are correct
Aaron , you are getting sleepy.
You must move to the 45th parallel and 60 miles from the pacific ocean tsunamis.

thought I would put in a response I wrote to a PM last week:
----
here's the short version
The US has established a military footprint in the middle east. Its the reason we are there, do the research, you'll come to the same conclusion.
China gets a large amount of its oil from the middle east.
Russian production is starting to decline, the middle east is their next door neighbor.
In a world of declining oil production, whoever controls the oil, controls the rest of the world. They would have a functioning economy, functioning army, functioning industry, functioning agriculture. Those without the oil, perish.
Control is survival.
(This is a critical statement) If a nation can't have the oil, it must ensure than an aggressive nation with a foothold on their territory does not have control of the oil.
Escalation of warfare would be expected.
All 3 major powers have nuclear weapons, as well as several minor players.
It does not matter who drops the first one. It must be answered in kind.
The paramount question is thus: Is there such thing as a limited nuclear exchange? This has been debated for decades. A common conclusion is No. Even a small exchange must see all sides making an attempt to wipe out industrial capacity in the event the exchange is limited. Along with industrial targets, missile bases, silos, storage and production sites must be targeted in an attempt to stop the limited exchange and prevent another. Bombers and subs, and possibly satellites, offer impenetrable targets, assuring an effective retaliatory strike. Its the MAD policy developed in the Cold War.
In the history of man, the 2 most common reasons for waging war are resources and religion. We've not developed so much in the last few hundred years. We are not immune to our genes. We are not enlightened. We are brutal. When the tanks start to roll, it is time to enact plans you have in place.
