Well, this is France we're talking about, I wouldn't get too worked up. I lived there for two years (and loved it), la greve is an inalienable right that they cherish greatly! |

| Since PO is completely outside the conceptual abilities of most people, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a lot more knee jerk, useless and ultimately damaging reactions. Our most adversarial opponent in PO will probably have more to do with the people around us than the shortage of oil! |

Worldwide food and energy riots, deaths - guaranteed. _________________ Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group. |

GHD, welcome again.
Why do I harbor this fantasy that the people of Europe,at least some of them, are smarter, more mature, savvyer... than the dipwads on thes side fo the puddle? I totally understand the frustration, but are the protests and violence going to change the geological facts of PO?
I see essentially no chance that we, and much less our polititians, can think their way throught this thing. |

We have no problem but ourselves. Think about that, even if there was a giant meteorite coming this way or oil disappearing tomorrow, where is the problem ? We are going to die anyway sooner or later, so the problem can only be us, how we behave
Imagine a world where everybody behaves as Dalai Lama or Ghandi. No more problems then, no matter peak oil |

Violent? According to the article you linked it's just some guys setting fire to a few crates in the road. Note photo of laughing French cops standing around doing nothing further down page.
This sort of protest /strike is just a normal part of the French political process. Happens every few years. Only very occasionally it does get really violent, as in 1968. Normally there is eventually an accomodation between the Govt. and the strikers.
...move along there ...nothing to see. |
