Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

Hi everyone, newb here:)
just wanted to say thanks. I've been reading for a couple of days now, there is some seriously great content here. I appreciate everyones research and effort to post here. Hope I can contribute some useful things to you as well.

How long does it take to get past the NEWB label?
Let me share my thoughts a little on our global oil problems and see it anyone cares to make comments. Perhaps the main reason we have problems is that there is more demand than there is supply. We don't have the supply because the crude still underground on our planet is not available due to many reasons, among them being environmental, political, geographical, philosophical, and (maybe) religious. (Not intended as an exhaustive list.) So, until we can overcome the opposition to increasing supply, we will be faced with a future doomsday scenario, hence my nickname, Har Megiddo, Hebrew for Armageddon.

All of you rocket scientists need to chill and understand that some awkward Newbie likely has plenty to contribute and might not always agree with your version of the status quo. New voices from outside of the echo chamber of Peak Oil forums are welcome.

Another point to remember regarding new viewers/posters...this site is "PeakOil.com." Not only does it regularly show up in the top five results from SE's, but, as the domain name industry would put it, "peakoil.com" is the "category-killer" domain name for this particular niche (peak oil). Regardless of content (which is extensive and generally of a high quality), this site will de facto be considered the main "Peak Oil" site on the internet because of its name/URL alone.
So, anyone who's got a beef with peak oil theory--maybe it doesn't fit in with their default worlfd view, etc--and needs to express their opinion on the matter will make PeakOil.com among their first must-post stops.
As we ride over the peak to the paradigm-shifting decline and "peak oil" becomes one of the most common terms in the English language, the traffic here will explode in an inverse of the decline slope.
The moderators will definitely have their hands full.
That's real catchy. Does it have axioms and corollaries?
As the rate of decline inclines the inverse of traffic is peace and quiet? or;
The exploding traffic rolls down the slope into the ditch, smoulders, and then starts to rust?
HarMegiddo you asked how long until the Newbie nomenclature disperses? Just about the time you stop with that abiotic shite. You forgot to add geologic to you list of restraints. _________________ ree rah rip ram. sunofabitch godamn. hidey didey christ almighty. rah rah crap

First off Welcome to PO.com. I have been reading this forum for about 3 years and I don't post often but I do want to welcome you and respond to your post.
The main reason you neglected to mention is geological, The US peaked in the 70's and it appears that the rest of the world peaked in about 2005-2006. Light sweet crude is getting much harder to find and produce and in my uninformed opinion it has started a rather steep decline. See Dante's Peak diesel thread and you will start to get an idea that all crude is not created equally.
I live in Louisiana which is an oil producing state and I will tell you that for the last year or so the oil companies have been drilling holes anywhere they can find to drill. Much of this is natural gas drilling but they are drilling like mad. I just can't buy the argument that all we need to do is drill more, my first hand observations are showing me that more drilling will not stop the slide. _________________ It is not the strongest of species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change.

Thanks for the articulate response. There is just too much manipulation of information by the global News Management Organs to gain any real certainty about oil supply. The US Geological Survey recently (Apirl 2008) estimated that there are 3 to 4 Billion barrels of oil underground in the Dakota Montana region. Of course, those who don't want this information believed will denounce or excommunicate those who talk about it. Those who want to entertain the thought that it may have some credibility may not be welcomed by the drgoodwords of this forum.
Looking over some of those who comment here, I hope there are more like you who can speak with a stranger without slapping his face verbally.

Kiss it, threadbear.
I've been here just about as long as you, just not posting. See my first post.
I've read all the books, been down the rabbit hole, and got the souvenirs to boot. I haven't needed to post nearly as much as some others because it would be repetitive of what others have already posted or continue to post. I could give a crap less about the number of my posts or what the status indicator has for my "fuel grade".
The very first thing I said in my post on this thread is that I am all for the newcomers. If you bother to read it and think for a second, you can see that my point was that there is an enormous difference between the curious/uninformed/scared (pick your adjective) newcomer and obvious trolls, and that it might be a good idea to reign in the trolls early so as not to keep serious newcomers from quickly disregarding the value of this site.
Get off your high horse. Your need to adhere to petty status symbols in order to judge credibility is very disappointing.

Oh, and don't forget "had to trudge through blizzards in my bare feet to get to Peak Oil forums If you've read all the books, got the souvenirs, etc...etc... perhaps you should be exposed to alternative points of view. Are alternative points of view synonymous with alternative energy; not to be mentioned in mature company? Should people prepare themselves for a darned good thrashing for entertaining the idea that there actually might be hope over the horizon?

Trolls are not hope on any horizon, they are trolls. In the future, you should work on your reading comprehension skills and you might be able to discern the actual point of what is written instead of going pissy about a suggestion.
Your condescending attitude is beneath you...or maybe it's that you're starting to freak out as the possibility of the dark things spoken about on this forum start hitting home with fervor?
Or maybe you're posting drunk?
Or maybe you've just decided to become an asshole?
I've held your posts in fairly high regard in the past, but you're starting to show symptoms of the early stages of "Engdahl-ism". You jumped the gun on me and apparently can't acknowledge it. Fine.
For the rest of you, here's my post from another "noob" thread that spawned my post on this thread:

You people are a joke.
FreedomSlave: If we're such a joke, then be all means, keep surfing for a site that gives you the warm fuzzies.
$6-7/gallon gas will soon be a pleasant memory.
Asswipe.
Do your homework before coming here to insult the many thousands of hours of diligent voluntary efforts by scores of the brightest people humanity has to offer. (bolded here for emphasis)
You obviously have no understanding of politics or economics, much less ecology, biology, physics, or geology. Read a few books, starting with William Catton's "Overshoot", or even Jim Kunstler's "The Long Emergency", so you have some foundation for even touching your keyboard, and then come back to talk...
BTW, this site is not run by the oil companies, so save the evil agenda-type bullshit.
Threadbear, you can coddle trolls if you like. I was merely making a suggestion that might actually help retain legitimate newcomers to this site because I actually believe in the merits of this site, and most of its posters. The more people wake up, the better our chances of dealing with these issues.
btu, apparently that job with CERA didn't pan out, huh? What I said, in that paragraph right above this one...well it sure as hell doesn't apply to you!

This thread is starting to look like HOF material. That can be arranged.
...but, but, but...Threadbear started it!
I can laugh about it, but please give credit where it is due.
Do what you will with it. I made my point.
And what was it I said in my first post in this thread? oh yeah...

My suggestion to the mods is to move the new noob (as opposed to "newb") threads into the Hall of flames straight away, because that's where they are going to wind up anyway.
I just didn't expect that it would be a mod to light the fire, and not for the type of "flame" that occurred.
Last note - I did have an emoticon there at the end of the quote you used, to indicate I was speaking in jest regarding T-Bears attitude shift, and I thought the use of "Engdahl-ism" would be another give away as to the intended tone. Sorry if it didn't come across that way.
