Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

Hi, growing tomatoes, squash, egg plant, and hot peppers in homemade self watering containers. See plans on how to make your own at www.emergencyfoodgrowing.homestead.com. They cost about $6 dollars to make and can be easily moved when necessary. chuck

I am so impressed with everyone's gardens. I hope that mine can
someday be like everyone elses'.
I am currently renting this house due to the housing bust. We got
out while the getting was good and now looking for something
cheap since prices have dropped. I don't want to spend the coin
to fix the dirt on this property so right now pots are the thing for
me.
Another question for everyone...how many of you have green-
houses to start your seeds in? _________________ To survive you must know what to do, when to do it, how to do it and why you are doing it.

badassmom, for the cost of a greenhouse, you could do so much. Go to www.gardenweb.com and go to the growing under lights forum. There are a lot of people starting their plants under florescent lights with very good results. They use bookcase like stands with the lights mounted on the undersides of the shelves to shine down on the next lower shelf. I have used this method, and it eliminates a lot of problems associated with managing a green house, especially in a location with freezing weather. On your rented land, you might want to try an easy to build above ground hydroponic system. If you have time, visit www.hotpepperclub.homestead.com for some ideas. Good luck, chuck

How do you plan to do that if the power goes out? Not very sustainable. _________________ Tired of high gas prices? Then stop driving to work, duh..... Learn to Work from home

This setup calls for things like epsom salt, nitrates and other chemicals...... Would work great until you cannot buy those chemicals.
A more sustainable solution would be to utilize an Aquaponics system which provide nearly the same plant food to the plants and is sustainable, as long as you have fish, and a very small solar electric system to run the pump.
backyardaquaponics.com has a great community forum with knowledgeable people if you interested in learning how to build a system. _________________ Tired of high gas prices? Then stop driving to work, duh..... Learn to Work from home
