The post-peak oil, post-housing bust economy is already driving most crazy, and we won't even get to the food riot stage for maybe two more years.

There are also other people who might be able to help you. Once all the retards and useless people die off those who are left should be able to help out if your in trouble. It will be the one really good point about the collapse of this current society, assuming were not going back to serfdom.

anectdotal....

when Bing and I were married fifteen years ago, we got a 25 pound bag of jasmin rice for something like eight bucks.
last month went to 8.99 then 10.99
her friend called two days ago from wallyworld and said had just gone to 16.99
another friend called today from the asian store in Austin, Texas and said same bag just went to 21.99

here we go....

I'm with Ludi.. MY garden will be ravaged by the hungry neighbors if it gets that bad.

Thank you, but I'm not. I know I'm not going to be one of the survivors.

You never can tell ... Smile

My take on it is that everyone's gotta die of something. Just be happy as long as you hang around, and make the most of the time you get.

Who saw the movie "Titanic"?

Remember the musicians on the ship, realizing there was little hope in surviving, continued their art anyway. That's kind of how I feel at times.

But I can leave a mark. Someone may appreaciate the trees I'm planting, (esp. the pecan), long after I'm gone.

Its all good Smile lived on the streets for ten years; have a "good" life now...four years ago had a sub-arachinoid anuerysm burst and was in a coma for three weeks, had to learn to walk and talk again (told my wife now I have to die again)...PO the only part I DON'T like is that some of the Bertram Deliverance types coming in the grocery are downright scary and aren't going to "take this layin down"

It is pretty amazing to me how many people read your posts and try to follow your examples Ludi.

Don't you think that makes you survive?

What else are we doing tapping here?

Dylan Thomas wrote:
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Rage...RAGE Against The Dying Of The Light!!

If you prefer something a bit more positive, one of my favoritesL

Robert Frost wrote:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

kpeavey,
I think I was in about sixth or seventh grade the first time I remember reading that Robert Frost poem. It has been one of my favorites since that day. Thanks for posting it.

Plus something as backup if a harvest is destroyed by locusts or something, plus extra seed, if you no longer have shops to fall back on.

Right about now the goat kids are getting pretty big and fat on the good grass, the litters of meat rabbits are more than fryers, the hens are laying well & any chicks should be plenty big for the pot.

Our family wouldn't likely make it if we expected the garden to be the only source of food. Shocked

(oh- and the crappie are biting like mad)
