I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

YWarren Buffet Proposes Nuke Plant in Idaho
ou think he has read Richard Duncan's Olduvai Cliff Theory? I think he has: link _________________ "There must be a bogeyman; there always is, and it cannot be something as esoteric as "resource depletion." You can't go to war with that." Emersonbiggins

Golem, If you aren't familiar with the Olduvai Theory, we have our own thread at PO.Com tracking it: Review of the Olduvai Gorge
The intent of the thread was to track evidence of it unfolding. As you will see in the first pages of the thread, people wanted to just debate the theory. But as you get into the thread, eventually it gets back on point to linking news articles on various electricity issues.

Coming out in Idaho...to say HI.
Possible real tough times ahead is no new news to us. Prepping is just part of our country lifestyle. Glad to see another site revealing some truth about this crazy world.... Keep prepping to survive, a word to the wise is sufficient.

Greetings, Duke!
We have been developing our small (7.5 acres) farm in Western Idaho (about 1/2 hour from Lewiston) for 3 years now. Neither of us had done this before, learned almost everything we knew going in from what we read, and the internet. Have made many laughable mistakes, and many not-so-laughable ones.
Our land had been sorely neglected for many, many years before we bought it. No one bothered to tell us that the lovely, lacey growth (8-10 feet tall) all over it was poison hemlock! Just one of the many challenges we have faced.
It is now becoming a family farm, with 5 new family members from two younger generations (ages 2 to 34) moving in with us within the past 10 days. We had hoped for this for a long time -- and not realized that we were not really prepared the way we should have been for this coming together, either!
But we are all bumping along, and the group effort is starting to come together (albeit slowly). Fortunately, we are all like-minded in terms of need for preps, where the world is headed, and our basic values and beliefs. That all helps.
Anyway, would like to learn more about you. As DA said above, where are you in Idaho?

Howdy from Spokane/eastern Washington! There's lots of preppers in our area, but very few of us are in touch. As time goes by and things become more apparent, that might change.
In my experience, most fall within either the well-to-do elite, and the rest of us average joes. That distinction surely is apparent in most group situations. I've found that the well off don't seem to want much to do with those of us who are not, but keep your mind open, we have skills and adaptability that should come in handy.
We do have a greet and meet being set up for August in Moses lake area. Might you be interested? _________________ Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, set fire to him, and he'll be warm the rest of his life. - Terry Pratchett

Hi Shinyoldlady,
Could you please explain what you mean by using term like "elite well-to-do" and "just us joes"?
There are those that have accomplished in balance what it takes and those that have done little, but think they know a lot, have great plans and intent for the future someday.
I can only guess what you are driving at, so please explain so I can better understand.
Meanwhile we are still seeking to visit with other well perpared folks in our north Idaho region. Waiting until things become apparent can also easily leave you with a crashed internet site and no emails as well. To late then, just like it is to late then to gather up all you might need.

I am referring primarily to money. I don't make much. A couple of posters have noted that my area has a high percentage of lower income residents, perhaps thinking they would become resentful of the people with higher incomes in the area. Sure hope not.
Been preparing for peak oil and the accompanying standard of living change for about 4 years. Mostly been doing it alone, though, as friends and others seem to think everything will work out without any adjustment trauma. And doing it slower than some preppers as I am on a limited budget.
The only other folks I have met who will identify as PO preppers were both much wealthier than I, so they were preparing way "bigger" than I ever could, one building large scale methane digesters, the other on his way to establishing a large community of self-dependent residents.
I'd like to meet more people who are preparing on a smaller scale. I have reference books, weapons, gardening, herbal remedies, home canning, wood heat, non-electric lighting, candle making, spinning, wild food harvesting, weaving, beekeeping, food storage, hand tools, and several other areas covered. And, of course, always wanting to learn more about the above.
Hopefully you have found interesting folks in your area to work with. It is so beautiful there. _________________ Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, set fire to him, and he'll be warm the rest of his life. - Terry Pratchett
