Meanwhile, keep watching for shortage reports, because we should start seeing some sneak in this week, if our doom-o-meter is calibrated correctly.

Does anyone know where I can obtain exotic plants in Canada? I've been looking online but most places I found are American and don't appear to ship to Canada. I did find a local place that sells pawpaws, but now can't find any that sells goumi.

Thanks, mistel. This looks useful but it doesn't seem that they carry the types of exotic plants I am looking for - things like goumi, ground cherry, good king henry, Russian comfrey, and so on - basically the typical staples of a permaculture forest garden. Does anyone know where these can be obtained in Canada?

I'm still looking! Would seeds of those plants be ok?

Thanks so much, Ludi, this looks like an excellent resource! I'd never seen it before. I don't see any goumi yet, but looks like there are lots of other good items. Can you say anything about cuttings vs. seedlings? I have the impression that cuttings tend to be more robust, is that correct?

I just tried searching on "goumi seeds" and found a source in quebec:

Sometimes the answer is right in front of you but one doesn't know the right question to ask!

Thanks again!

Richters carries good king henry (plants and seeds) and comfrey (several cultivers; not sure which one is "Russian" comfrey?). I'm in the US, and I've ordered from Richters before and have been pleased with them (except that they wouldn't ship goldenseal to the states, drat).

As for goumi, I don't know whether they'll ship to Canada, but Raintree Nursery sells goumi, and interesting other fruiting shrubs like edible honeysuckles. In my limited experience Raintree sells quality plants.

"Ground cherry" is a common name that may map to different kinds of plants. Do you mean tomatillo (which is often used to make salsa)? If so, Richters sells that.

Thanks, FY! Richters looks good, I will try that. I did manage to find and order some GKH and groundcherry seeds from a local source yesterday. Unfortunately Raintree doesn't ship to Canada.
