Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. It only marks those topics that I've actually read. Other forums simply mark all the topics as read and remove those little arrow icons from all the threads.

This is probably due to a JavaScript incompatibility. The JavaScript which would mark the topics read will work in IE, but not Firefox. This is pretty common, although still annoying.
