Well the horses arrived yesterday. It was a little sooner than I had planned but the bottom line was they needed some pasture, I needed to get busy and that's all there is to that.

The barn isn't finished but well on it's way. The hay isn't off but it might stop raining soon.

There is a lot more to do but this is the true start of my powerdown.

Those are fine looking horses SpringCreekFarm Very Happy

Great thing about grays is the change in color over the years towards white. Very nice indeed. Useful too!

Aaah! A great day, when you first bring them home! It brings many memories for me. They look interested and intelligent. I learned a lot about the quite different personalities of individual horses. One of ours was an enthusiastic puller, and proud. The other was a bit bigger, and a most careful worker, the right one for garden work. Both mares, and loved attention.

Are they mares, geldings? They look young, maybe 6, or 8?

Enjoy your time becoming friends with them!

Most awesome SCF!

Those are two beautiful animals.

You've taken the right steps and I hope I can follow within the next few years. We've got the horses; the mare is going into training on July 1, the stalls are planned and will be built in August, the pasture fences are being repaired.

The mare will be done with training in September and then she and her yearling fillie will come back home. We have to wait for the yearling to grow older and then be trained and we'll have a team to pull the yet to be purchased doctor's buggy.

After that I would like to get a forecart with a PTO and try some horse powered farming.

Happy day, SCF! I don't know who looks prouder, you or those noble beasts.

If only more farmers were like you . . . there'd be a chance.

That is really great and an inspiration for the rest of us. Give us an update when you can bear to pull yourself away from them.

Very jealous.

Must be a great feeling to plough a field behind a horse.

But when you do stop in, can you keep us apprised of your experiences and plans as they unfold?

To echo everyone else, nice pair of drafts! Will they be broodmares?

Not that I know anything but they look alert and in good condition for a little workout; not too lean and not too fat. Tack looks in good shape too.

And I too like the look of the Dapple Grays.

Give us a glamor shot when you get them curried!

Thanks again folks. Yes Sky they will eventually be broodmares. I have a lot of work to do before I think about sending them away to get bred however.

For tonight, a little rest.
