Hammock Thread

I thought I'd start a new thread on a a very useful but overlooked piece of gear: The Hammock. Often we discuss what to do when the heat gets cut off but on the flip side we Texans endure brutal heat.

Now besides loittering here and ranching I am a avid camper/backpacker. More specificaly I am a hammock camper and have been so since 2004. I own 3 hammocks but my real prize is my Explorer Deluxe Hennessey Hammock.

I have found I can sleep well in 80 degree August temps, all the heat is carried away. These things can be modified for cold temps as well. I spent one night in 20 degree temps and by butt got a little cold but I did stay toasty warm everywhere else.

That Hennessey Hammock looks really interesting. I'll have to check it out.

As one might expect, hammocks are really popular here in Venezuela. I use one when I'm at the ranch. Not as comfortable as a mattress but a heck of a lot better than sleeping on the ground.

Buy or make a big hammock easly and light.

Get a couple of sticks when setting up and use them as spreaders.

Put your mosquito net under (first) and then over after you lay down sideways so your knees aren't up your nose.

Rain fly as is handy.

Interesting thread.

Fortunately, here at home, once the sun sets, the down-filled comforter comes out... even in mid-August.

A veritable Garden of Eden.... soil so rich that you'd have to sit on a sack of fertilizer to raise an umbrella.
