He should convert one of these to electric. Old MG's and Datsuns are both popular conversion vehicles. Of course, don't know if you live close enough to anywhere you'd want to go for an EV to make sense... _________________ Peak oil is sort of like a mental Everlasting Gobstopper, except it tastes like ass and you can't get it out of your mouth.

I've gone to theme parks more times than I can count. Now that I'm on the verge of leaving southern california, I went back to most of them again including a costly trip to Legoland in San Diego right as gas was starting its most recent upward climb.
There is nothing more frivolously wasteful than visiting a theme park. But damn it, life is about more than conserving every BTU. if I'm going to wind up a die-off casualty, I want to say I had some fun while I still could.
I'd still like to take a trip out of the country, but it may be too late to justify the cost involved unless I'm intending to relocate. The only country I've visited as an adult is Mexico and I was not impressed. _________________ Peak oil is sort of like a mental Everlasting Gobstopper, except it tastes like ass and you can't get it out of your mouth.

Carrying an off-road motorcycle in the back of my 351 cubic inch V-8 powered F100 truck some 40 miles each way to ride singletrack trails in the mountain woods for a few hours one Saturday a month.
Does wonders for my attitude.
I save fuel, or btus, in every aspect of my life save this one.

My one vice is I still go out to the desert each month for my hobby of amateur astronomy. I could actually get rid of my 21 year old truck were I live now, I'm 2 miles from work and ride my bike there each day and to the grocery store.
I haven't gotten rid of the truck only because the round trip to Landers, California I observe from (near Joshua Tree National Park) is 240 miles from home. I use 8.75 gallons of gas each time I do this. It is the only reason I still keep the truck.
I love the desert, and I know in the future it will only be a place to cross, not live. But I still love it! _________________ Skeptical scrutiny in both Science and Religion is the means by which deep thoughts are winnowed from deep nonsense-Carl Sagan

This is a great thread. Thanks for starting it.
UGLY SECRET ABOUT ME:
I am a B**CH with almost zero tolerance when it comes to anyone in my family make unwarranted trips into town.
I know that's not right. But it is (was) my ugly secret.
I have to go into one of four rural town four days a week (my mileage is, thankfully, paid for by the state agency I work for) for my medical practice. I HATE stopping after office hours to grab something someone forgot at the grocery store, hardware store, etc. However, that is something I am willing to do, to save fuel.
Then when someone just wants to go to town because, well, just because they want to get off the farm for a few hours, and they indulge in that (usually by making up some thin excuse for the trip) -- I get REALLY cranky.
So there is my PO secret. I am a PO facist, I guess

Ooooohhhh, now that is bad! Welcome btw. You find this is a good place. No worries regarding all those boob tubes, they will make fine targets out about 200 yards when you are sighting in your new AR-15.

My worst sins, IMO, are what I put in the garbage some times.
Do you know how many things your NOT supposed to put in the garbage "these days" ? Like batteries, "dead animals" like mice up to elephants I guess (why are animal based food scraps OK but a dead mouse or two isn't).
I don't even wanna say what else. So many of us IMO throw out in regular trash CFLs, tires, nasty chemicals, and all manner of things they legally or morally shouldn't. Regular trash is just so convenient and most locales don't inspect your garbage for violations; but some do.
On the plus side, I'll claim this is my worst sin. Just an occasional battery, and probably some other stuff that's probably at least better than "medical waste" or "toxic waste"... :

I ain't asking about the coordinates of your TP stash; just what you do with the portion of your paycheck not going to such things.
At least canis and eb are honest enough to admit their addiction to oil.
Come on everybody, what is your secret?
Addiction to MOTOCROSS, Pops. If'n there wasn't any oil, I'd take the chain off my bike and find the biggest mountain here in...Illinois..., find some farmer to pull me up it and push me over.
OIL is feathers in the wind but MOTOCROSS is LIFE!

While I do ride the bike just about everywhere, I manage to drive to work once a week and the guilt sets in just after I drive by my first cyclist.
I buy a lot of music...cd's and records....oil makes this possible!
and now for some personal stuff..........
I've been sober for 2 years, but I tasted the bubbles from my wife's glass of champagne 2 weeks ago.
One of my best friends is in a band who is opening for Stone Temple Pilots for 7 dates and I am really jealous of him!!!!!!!!! OK..he deserves it!
That's it for today!
