How many cars do you drive? I ask this question because the people I work around at AT&T will give you an average answer of three to six!! Only one person I work with has no car, and she rides the bus everyday to work (she's 65 and has bad vision). I still drive a 21 year old truck (1987 Nissan pickup) only because I still drive out to the desert once a month for my astronomy hobby.
A recent news article said 10 million American cars would stop being driven if gas went to five dollars a gallon in the U.S. That is less that 1/2 of one percent (250 million vehicles U.S.).
When I was a kid in the 1960's my family had one car, and two drivers (my dad and mom). Even when I was married, and my ex-wife and I both worked, we only had 2 cars.
Today I have one old truck I barely drive, and 4 bicycles (and lots of tires and tubes). How many vehicles do you drive today? And how many do you think you will have soon? (My honest answer is none). _________________ Skeptical scrutiny in both Science and Religion is the means by which deep thoughts are winnowed from deep nonsense-Carl Sagan |

Two autos, one for the commute (50 mpg) and one that gets driven very little but is still useful when the primary is being used. Both are high miles (interstate miles). One is paid for and the other will be in four months.
In the future the secondary could be sold and perhaps we will buy someone's 13 year old pickup truck so that it is easier to get hay and the like, but only after we go down to one person working. _________________ "Against stupidity the gods themselves contend in vain."

| I have one car that I drive to work every day, my hubby and I car pool, so that is our primary vehicle. We also have a motorbike that is registered but we hardly use it, maybe 4 - 8 times a year so we are planning on getting rid of it... |

Two, both paid for (Yeah debt free!) A prius from 4 years ago and a pickup truck. Prius for most, but you gotta have a truck on the farm! _________________ Everybody thinks they're righteous! Adam Baldwin "Jayne" Firefly/Serenity |

Although it's actually 4%, another thought is to make it illegal to drive a vehicle that's not paid for. Solves a couple of problems at the same time.
I drive a 17 year old gas guzzler. I also spend about $20 a month on gas. Last month it was down for 2 weeks. I didn't miss it. I've decided to save for a scooter. Then I should spend about $60 a YEAR on gas. _________________ A man should never wear a hat that has more character than he does. |

I have a 12 year old 25+mpg car that was paid a long time ago. I also have a motorcycle that gets about 50pmg, in the clear. I'm about to purchase an electric bicycle to compliment my two normal bicycles. I plan on buying a used minivan or SUV (outright, no debt), for the rare but needed large hauling needs, when they drop another 30% in value.
I will buy a RV, if I can find one in decent shape at a really cheap price, since I would not mind having backup housing that is free and clear. _________________ When somebody makes a statement you don't understand, don't tell him he's crazy. Ask him what he means. -- Otto Harkaman, Space Viking |

My DH and I each have a car. Mine (2000 Contour SE) is paid off, and will be the last car I own. We keep two so that I can do errands, have something available in case there's an emergency, etc., when my DH is at work. I fill up once every 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 weeks. _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto |

We have a total of four vehicles, two running, two currently non-operational.
1965 Datsun pickup (our "farm truck")
1968 MGB GT (non-operational)
1970 Datsun roadster (non-operational)
2003 Toyota Echo
We'll probably keep driving even if gas goes to $10 a gallon, because we don't need to drive more than once a week, usually, or less. _________________ "...powerdown so soft and fluffy you'll think you're living in a pillow..." - jboogy |

I drive about 6 to 8 different personal on-road vehicles that myself, wife, daughter and some of our employees share, plus I drive 2 motorcycles and our commercial and fleet vehicles. We have three more daughters that haven't started driving yet. We're pretty much debt free, so we'll keep many of our current vehicles and toys or trade them for something newer, better, more efficient.
Multiple vehicle ownership is very high in my area of the suburban Northeast. We have plenty of family, friends and customers that own more than one vehicle per driver in their household. The only thing that limits vehicle ownership among much of the middle class, upper-middle class and wealthy is the lack of off-street parking and garage space in the urban areas.
When people start selling off their extra vehicles and toys. I'm hoping to see some real bargains. |

1 car.
A honda that getd 30 miles to the gallon. ' ')
We had a large van that could sit 14 and we used it when we were moving.
However we sold it for scrap because the engine basically died and it began falling apart.
I see no point in having cars you won't use or the point in having more than needed. |

Right now, 2.
My wife has a 25 mpg car, that I now use to go to work. (My company built a new warehouse out in the middle of nowhere, so my commute is 25 miles each way.) She drives my SUV to work (3 miles) that I bought to haul a trailer. The trailer is no longer necessary, so the SUV goes bye-bye next year when my lease is up. Luckily I will just turn this beast in cause if I had to trade out of it, we would be in trouble.
I've already talked to the wife about staying with one vehicle 11 months from now, possibly with a scooter as a supplement. I'm hoping a year is enough time to see how quickly TSHTF and how this countries' sheeple react to it. |
