Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

It used to be that one could purchase a 12 volt full sized deep cycle battery with the acid stored separately. Not able to find these anymore?
If you can get them please post that information here.
A 12 volt battery in that condition can be put on the shelf for 50 years and it will be just fine. Once needed... just add the acid to each cell and it is ready to go.
A great investment for the true long term surviviliist who relies on any form of battery usage...from staring the tractor to storing solar energy to selling/trading them at 100 times the investment cost "" when everyone batteries are diying off anf no new ones can be found.

I have always thought that 12 volt battery rebuilding could become a post peak cottage industry. Cut open a shot battery, take out what remains of the lead and acid inside, re-refine the lead and remold and reinstall the plates and glue or melt the case shut.
Not something that would need a lot of technological infrastructure to keep running. _________________ The battle to preserve our lifestyle has already been lost. The battle to preserve our lives is just beginning.

Generally, the acid is added at the battery store when you buy it. Simply tell them to give you a dry battery and bring a plastic container for them to put the acid in.
I've been thinking about this from a different post. A lead acid battery is a really simple beast actually. As the battery ages, the positive side plates corrode to the point where there is little exposed lead. You can then try to salvage the plates intact by charging at a higher voltage, but eventually, the plates reach the point of no return. Lead melts at a low temperature, well within what your stove is capable of. If you can get a hold of a mold, you can first remove the corrosion, melt down the plates and cast new ones to make a new battery. You will have to add some lead each time, but that can be savaged from other batteries. _________________ "That's the problem with mercy, kid... Once the acid is introduced into the battery...even if you pour it out the acid has been absorbed by the lead plates. It will damage them and shorten the life span....
Stores..even wholesale get their larger batteries all prefilled. Most are sealed batteries to boot. The older spin off top ones are harder to find each year.
Making my own? Not ready for that.,..then to find in a jam they just don't work that well.
I would rather purchase several hundred dollars worth of un charged batteries and store them in a a cool dry place.

I guess it depends on where you buy them. At the local Pep Boys, they were filling the batteries in the store, that was a couple of years ago, so maybe they don't do it anymore. _________________ "That's the problem with mercy, kid... It just ain't professional" - Fast Eddie, The Color of Money
